2011 was a confusing nightmare. 2012 was better. I think 2013 is best & easiest. Ease of understanding was taken into account & customers frustration was much less. Thanks for the improvements. Only $12 refund but that's not Turbo taxes fault! Text notice 45 minutes after filing that I was accepted, big thrill. & nice convenience.
What's great about it: Getting easier. Much improvement over past years.
What's not so great: wording & redundancy at times.

Overall,Turbo Tax is a great software pkg.
What's great about it: Fairly easy to navigate.
What's not so great: A couple of minor glitches with asking for redundant info.

Evaluation of Turbo Tax 2013

1. I spent a lot of time correcting errors between 1099's and Schedule E. Royalty received always wanted to go to Sch C, while many needed to go to Sch E. 2. Charities: I entered all my donations separately, then later, the program listed all my charities from last year, asking if I had contributed to any on the list. My first list was already done. I shouldn't be asked twice. 3. I tried to change method of payment for Audit Defense from deducting from my refund, to pay by credit card. Every time, the program asks to save my program first: I say OK, then it shuts off Turbo Tax. I have to restart --- happened with several attempts. 4. The worst of all, program mis-calculates my Louisiana State Return. It apparently took severance tax on oil and gas production, to be state income tax, giving me a big refund from Louisiana. I couldn't figure how to make that correction. Therefore I would not let you e-file my Louisiana return. I do not believe the state owes me anything: I probably owe them. OTHER THAN THAT, THE PROGRAM WAS FINE.
What's great about it: Once the kinks are resolved, the end result is good.
What's not so great: 1099's vs Sch E. Couldn't change pmt method for Audit Defense.

If you can gather the information, you can file your own taxes with TurboTax.
What's great about it: I did it myself

Worked well, except for one glitch. The zip code for one of our deductions kept getting returned as an error. I went on-line and doublechecked the zip code, and even tried other zip codes in the area nearby, and they all got rejected. In order to e-file, I eventually took out the donation. Not sure why the bug, but it was there.

I purchase the business version because I have a business. I also help do my brother-in-law and Mother's taxes. It should ask somewhere if you have a business, let you say no and move along!
What's great about it: Always leads you through things great!!!
What's not so great: Makes me go through business section when I don't have one
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Hooked on Turbo Tax for Home & Business
on March 21, 2014

I am definitely hooked on TurboTax for Home & Business and have been using Intuit's tax return software ever since the first version came out. The hard copies of those files and associated records are stored in my attic and I am too lazy to dig the earliest electronic version out to see when that was. I am a self-employed consultant and greatly prefer to combine my QuickBooks business accounts with my Quicken personal accounts to complete my annual income tax using TurboTax for Home & Business. This year's TurboTax is probably the best ever. The only thing that was missing in my 2013 Tax Return at the end were the details of my Home Office deductions for Utilities, Home Maintenance, etc. in Schedule C. The "Guide" for this may have been there and I inadvertently skipped it, but I keep track of my entries from both QuickBooks and Quicken and I had not checked those entries in Quicken, so I went directly to the Schedule C Form and it led me to the Worksheet where I entered these expenses manually. I did not have the patience to go back to the "Guide" to see where I may have gone wrong in my choices. I check the entries on every important Form to be sure that the "Guide" prompted me to make the correct entries. The prudent TurboTax user should become familiar with the tax forms they are required to use every year and check those forms for "obvious" omissions or erroneous entries. I consider it an ideal service that TurboTax recomputes everything in my tax return every time I "Save" the program! The rest is just icing on the cake and that is a lot of icing with TurboTax! Thank you, Intuit!
What's great about it: Recalls all details from previous return plus ease and clarity of guided program plus easy look at actual forms.
What's not so great: Lacked icon to look at current total comparison with last year's tax return. It was shown just before eFile.
