Good, just hard to figure out why some things change the refund or total owed. May be because of AMT or something along that line. Entered my IRA total value which has been entered every year I used TT, my fed refund went down $150, state down $77. have no clue why, didn't take an IRA deduction. Had some rental properties, issued form 4562 for all but one property. It had a 4562 last year, have no clue why their wasn't one generated this year. The depreciation was listed on other schedules correctly.
What's great about it: Carry over from last year.
What's not so great: Hard to find out why some things happen/ change or not.
It was my first time to use Turbo Tax, and our taxes are pretty complicated, but the process was straightforward, and with a little help from an expert by phone, I was able to feel confident that I completed our return correctly.
I have been using Turbo Tax for 4 years now and it has been so very helpful. I am retired and have a small business, now, and am self employed. I use the Home & Business version and it works very well for me. I would not want to do my taxes any other way. My only problem this year was that after I filed my federal return I had to wait nearly 2 months to file my state return. I was waiting on a form to be updated in my Turbo Tax Program. I guess it could have been my state government's problem. Oh well, all's well that ends well!
What's great about it: Pretty easy to use. Efficient. Much easier than the old "paper trail"!
What's not so great: Filed Federal in February. Had to wait for a form for West Virginia. Filed state on April 10!
I just wish there was some indicator that you've visited a section, even if it didn't apply to you, to make sure you hit all the sections. Other than that I LOVE TurboTax.
What's great about it: It walked you through each section step-by-step
What's not so great: Some times I wasn't sure if I was done with a section or not.
Your software would not remove entries I needed to change. Your telephone specialist set me up with a downloaded software and I was able to finish and file.
What's great about it: I was familiar with you proceedure from many previous years
What's not so great: After many evenings working on our taxes, I was affraid I would have to start all over again, maybe with another softwar
Regarding owning a business why not just ask "did you close a business this year". Also paying tax as an employee in one state while living in another wasn't clear. After a few questions it seemed as if it was asking if those other taxes were taxed in another state. Confusing!
What's great about it: Led me right through everything.
What's not so great: Didn't ask some questions in a clear manner.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved
Third year in a row I've used TurboTax and I'll keep on being a user. Cut my tax prep time by hours. I resisted for several years, but now I'm hooked. Thanx TurboTax!
What's great about it: Easy step-by-step guidance, and plenty of double-checking. Makes doing taxes easy.
What's not so great: Minor detail - but it doesn't seem to want to recognize you are finished if you opt to physically mail your taxes
Avid Turbo Tax user. Keep buying every year. I contemplate an accountant, but hear that this software is preferred by accountants. So why spend the money to tell me what Turbo Tax does.
What's great about it: Easy to use and thorough.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved
