Excellent Program!

I have used Turbo Tax for Home and Business for years. One year I did try a different product that was cheaper. It was so complicated, I immediately went out and purchased Turbo Tax. I complete returns for my business, my son and my parents. I originally paid huge amounts of money for accountants to complete my returns. I couldn't believe it could be that complicated so I tried Turbo Tax and have never regretted that decision. The program is so user friendly and walks you through each section step by step. It helps you find deductions you would never think of. When I file the returns I feel totally confident that they are correct. The e-filing makes it so easy to file on time too!
What's great about it: It is by far the most user friendly program available!
What's not so great: NONE!

Taxes Made Easy! Really!

I was intimidated at first when a friend suggested I use Turbotax this year. I had always had a professional or friend prepare my taxes and thought it was an overwhelming process. Boy, was I wrong! Turbotax makes it so simple and walks you through every step.
This is a fabulous product and well worth the price! I'm doing my own taxes from now on! Thank you, Turbotax!
What's great about it: So simple to use!
What's not so great: None!

mixed review this year

Mostly easy with each step explained. However, if I had not used TT before, I would have missed a number of my self-employment business deductions. Had to go in and manually enter the information on the specific form, rather than entering it though the question and answer section.
What's great about it: it did all the math
What's not so great: 2013 business version did not take me to all self-employed entries. Had to call up the form and enter the information

Peace of Mind

I have used this for several years and also have had professionals prepare our taxes some years. I find that it is no more work than preparing information for a professional tax preparer and a lot more expedient. In both situations the taxpayer is responsible for the information on the return. I might as well do it myself and get it right the first time instead of having to communicate with someone who is just entering what I give to them as they understand it.
What's great about it: Asks all the right questions, carries forward information from prior years, eliminates math errors, typewritten return
What's not so great: somewhat tedious, had a hard time understanding how the Georgia Retirement credit was calculated

Easy to use and thorough. I just went step by step and answered the questions. Any omissions or wrong numbers were flagged and the program asked about them later.
What's great about it: The product is similar from year to year so once you learn it the next year is easier.
What's not so great: The price for the optional audit support seems high considering that only 1% of returns by individuals are audited.

Helpful advice. Easy navigation. Great import features from investment broker, bank, W-2, etc. Also, love how it remembers my info from past year.
What's great about it: Easy to follow along and understand
What's not so great: Somewhat pricey
Pros: I bought or sold investments

AKCOLE Tax Return
on March 22, 2014

I am concerned about all the new rules about Health Insurance. For the first time I had an HSA account and, to be honest, I don't know what its true value is other than I was able to sock away some money to pay for medical expenses without paying taxes on it.
As for my health insurance premiums, I took just eight months of those expenses, because, while I was pd a full twelve months of premiums, my employer for the first four months OFFERED health insurance, but it was too expensive and I went out to the private market. But, as i understand, I can't write off the those premiums. I hope this info is not too personal but this whole health insurance stuff got complicated quickly.
OH, I guessed on how to spread the premiums across 1099 income. I assigned premiums against 1099 based upon the % that 1099 represented for all my self employment. I hope that was right. Turbo Tax provided NO instructions on how to do that.
Next year's TurboTax will need to be complete ready to ask for and explain the health care costs and the taxable event associated with them.
What's great about it: As usual, it was straight forward and it covered all aspects
What's not so great: Being a first self-employed person, this section was challenging.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
