Great, but wish for one change

I track mileage of two cars to manage multiple rental properties. Filing requires entering "business" mileage and mileage for each property. Filing requires entering Make & Model, when purchased, when started using for business, total miles used for all purposes for the year and then the miles for each of the separate uses. Instead of entering all the "common" items once, it asks for "Make & Model, when purchased, etc" for each and every use of the vehicle.
Other than that, I've been using TT for many years and I love the choice of Interview or Choosing what I want.
The inerviews can take forever and I often skip them, but you probably won't miss anything if you select the Interviews.
The "checks" at the end are great! I always have errors and it finds them.
What's great about it: Works great with Quicken
What's not so great: Entering business & rental mileage
I hate filing my taxes! All those receipts and stubs...trips to keep track of and numbers to compute! Drives me nutty. But, TurboTax takes a lot of the pain out of it by walking me through what I need to do. Thanks! I appreciate that!
I have complex financial securities and personal business income. Prior to using turbotax I had to pay an accountant a lot of money to prepare my taxes. I have been using turbotax for 10 years now and it's one of the best products I have ever used. I now do my taxes and those of my extended family with ease and assurance that my taxes are accurate.
What's great about it: easy, intuitive and accurate
What's not so great: some lack of interaction between federal and state
All in all Turbo Tax is great. However, the step-by-step guide is not easily understandable when filling out Schedule E for a rental house when your circumstances are that you just bought the rental but had to make repairs before it was available to rent. More explanation is necessary. The program made it seem I couldn't deduct expenses made during the year since I didn't collect any rent. I had to do further research & play with the program to figure it out.
What's great about it: You decide if you want the step-by-step interview or not
What's not so great: Schedule E for rent house not easily understood
I have been using Turbo Tax for almost 10 years now and I have a complicated return each year. The step by step instructions work great regardless of your skill set or tax knowledge. I highly recommend to anyone who doesn't want to pay some place a chunk of your money when they use the same program you would.
What's great about it: Ease of Use
What's not so great: None Really
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments
I was particularly annoyed with East Step, which has gotten so generic that it specifically instructed me to enter information in the wrong place, or twice, or not at all. After completing Easy Step, I had to go through the forms and correct the mistakes, some of which were not easy to find. I would have been just as well off to ignore Easy Step, but if I were to do that, I might miss something important.
What's great about it: You have so much of my past information that switching elsewhere will require a lot more data entry.
What's not so great: This program gets more complicated and convoluted every year.
