Excellence in Tax Preperation!
on April 10, 2014
Posted by: Walleo
Ease in preperation is of extreme importance when preparing IRS documents, as the many rules and regulations cause confusion for even the most capable people. Turbo Tax eliminates the possibility of misinterpretation and the possibility of erroneous preperation.
You did not handle well how to enter in and how the data from the Form 1099-Q affected my family. It was confusing and you showed that money I already paid taxes on and then withdrew later to pay for college tuition was counted again as income (for a second time). Disappointed.
What's not so great: Problems related to Form 1099-Q
Turbo tax is very helpful in most tax issues. It drives you through all the basics but may get a little vague on complex issues. If your returns are straightforward then Turbo tax is for you.
What's great about it: Simple steps through most of tax issues
What's not so great: Not very helpful in AMT, HSA, and Medical premiums paid by self employed.
Purchased program early, and began entering data As it became available, even "guesstimating" for major sections and then updating with correct figures as they became available. Taxes essentially finished within the first month and allowed me time to review and optimize my deductions. Great experience.
What's great about it: Organizes filing data, easy to continue over extended time
What's not so great: No real complaints.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved
I have used TT for many years... better each year, but my taxes more complicated each year, so I appreciate the detail and links to past year information.
What's great about it: Investment 1099 downloading, carry forward info/balances
What's not so great: K1 completion and mysteries, help should be context orientated
Will tell you "this does not qualify; that does not qualify" will never tell you why. You have to go make 16 adjustments to figure out why. If the software already is figuring out it was not qualifying why would it not say "because of this". You have to spend hours trying different things to figure out what you missed.
What's great about it: Walks you though questions.
