It's been at least ten years for us, using what we call "Dr. Turbotax" as our assistant in this annual ritual. Sometimes we owe, sometimes we enjoy a refund--but it's always a smooth, easy-to-understand process. And the arithmetic is taken care of automatically! No question, we intend to continue our partnership for years to come.
What's great about it: Remembers last year's submittal, eliminates many steps and questions
What's not so great: Hard to tell it to stop doing thing it's done in the past--matter of fact, I dan't figure that out
Had to go over these multiple times..Found multiple forms filled in that should not have been there. Thank heavens I did. Other then that its easy to use. second year using this software.
Schedule C could have been more accurate. It's great to import info from QuickBooks but it missed the deduction for long term care insurance. You should remind solo business owners to look at their personal checking account for business expenses.
TurboTax did a GREAT job until the point I had to answer a question if my wife filed a return in 2011/2011 and about AGI for her. Since we filled together, the question asking about AGI separate, gives the impression (or concern) that the income could be double counted.
If TurboTax can somehow add a guide (as it does in ALL the other items in the Federal Return) it will be perfect.
What's great about it: Really easy to use and accurate. Well Explained for Federal
What's not so great: For Illinois return, it was confusing. I didn't know what to provide as AGI for my wife
I've used Turbo Tax since I first filed my non-teletax forms... it's all I know how to use! It's grown with us as our family situation has grown. So since I had my first job and nothing more than a savings account and W2 to now using the Home & Business version to deal with sale of stocks, schedule Cs for a home business, a child, etc. I really don't think it could be easier!
We considered using a tax professional since we have so many elements, but I quickly realized that more than half the effort is spent on getting organized and making head/tails of the documents collected over the year. After that point, you might as well enter it in Turbo Tax yourself and save some hard earned money!
What's great about it: Easy Peasy! Nice navigation!
What's not so great: Online version doesnt have forms view
Fairly easy to use. tax nomenclature and governmentt speak sometimes hard to decipher, but "Help" does a pretty good job explaining things. Take your time and review entries a few times before filing.
What's great about it: guidance, easy, step by step
What's not so great: help panes don't stay minimized while selecting different sectons during reviews
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
