Made Quick Work of a complicated return
on April 8, 2014
Posted by: WSSS
It made quick work of my complicated tax return. I have 3 accounts at a brokerage, with hundreds of trades each year. Turbotax imported everything seamlessly so I didn't have to enter hundreds of lines manually. It even sets up tax payment for me!
I had trouble installing the software. It kept crashing, and I had to go through a complicated uninstall/reinstall procedure to fix it before I could even use it. But the documentation was on the Intuit website and the fix worked.
What's great about it: Fast, easy to understand
What's not so great: Software glitches on Mac
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved, I bought or sold investments
Asked for info from 2012 file often even though it supposedly imported the file. Filled out worksheet for donated truck and then in review listed 7 items as incomplete which were entered on that form. Should not suggest a review title of "Rocked My Refund" if you want honest review.
This is my 12th year with TT.
What's great about it: Somewhat familiar. Regognized previous TT 2012 File
What's not so great: Did not seem to load all info from 2012 File. No clear Save button on work page. Kept asking for info from 2012 file .
Turbo Tax helped enormously with the overwhelming rattle of the IRS tax codes. I have used the program for years and trust no other. while some areas can use some improvements, the overall systematic walk-thru of the tax computation is supreme. Some of businesses are not office based, as many perceive an office. This leaves the user to his/her own imagination as to what is deductible or qualifies for that particular question. The Help line, however, eliminates this, if one chooses to use it.
What's great about it: Interpreted IRS questions well
What's not so great: Some business caterorgies left to imagination for non-office based situations
The calculation of home office deduction did not calculate properly for two homes used for home offices in the same year. I am disappointed in the way this calculation was handled.
What's great about it: Allowed me to fix the error by hand
To make a vehicle worksheet that would include your whole fleet if you do not take mileage or depreciation that you can just enter you actual operating expenses
My husband used to file the tax since I married. After he passed away 3 years ago, I used Turbo Tax as like he did. I didn't have confident so I paid to CPA to review it, but everything was correct. Turbo Tax is excellent software and I am comfortable using it. Tks for hard work.
What's great about it: every step of I need was there. All I have to click and read...
What's not so great: I got frozen when I do e-filing
I have used tubro-tax for over 10 years and have found it very easy to use when I follow step by step. Often it reminds me of something I forgot for that year.
What's great about it: easy to follow step by step
Having been a customer for over 10 years now, I've become comfortable with TurboTax guidance step-by-step in navigating the complexity of both Federal and State filing processes. But, again this year, I can't seem to get the transfer of data from Form K-1 into TurboTax correctly. This year, I passed all reviews except when I attempted to file my returns. Then Turbo Tax tells me I've overridden forms and the file can't be submitted with overrides. I overrode those forms because the data submitted to me on Form K-1 required it. Somehow, something is missing. I don't know whether with TurboTax or the Form K-1. I just followed the recommended corrections and let the forms go on through. I wish when TurboTax requires this in order to e-File, that a summary of changes be provided lest I be audited.
What's great about it: Step-by-Step Guidance, Form Availability
