Have use Turbo tax since it came on 3.5" diskettes (1996 or earlier). It is always easy and always imports for pervious year. Eaven if you get a new computer, just same the old file to your new PC or the cloud and download.
I've been using TT for years and appreciate that previous year's info easily transfers to the current year. The download form feature (W2, 1099, etc.) is also nice. It is frustrating that that a tax form that once was error free suddenly has errors and that the program continually updates even after you submitted your taxes. (Does this mean that your taxes had errors?) The main problem is that TT does not provide the same support and insight for state returns. They can be equally difficult and TT should hire enough people to fine tune this part of the program.
What's great about it: Federal provides info to help make decisions
What's not so great: States provides little info to help make decisions
Selected for maximum contributions to SEP IRA. Even though I clicked to not include a SEP IRA for myself (too small to be worth it) but retain a SEP IRA for my wife, it insisted on retaining the contribution amount for me. Nothing I could click on could get it to release that information. I had to go to forms view to change the value in the actual worksheet. Annoying behavior when the check boxes to control this were clearly not able to correctly control the calculation.
What's not so great: Would not properly calculate SEP IRA
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments
Your product is worth the investment every year... I love having the options explained and the help. The ability to change items and what if scenarios like amount to add to a SEP and see how the taxes change. Just a great tool to help you comply with the unending, painful, federal government tax system.
What's great about it: Import from last year and comparisons with previous year as you work
What's not so great: Couple of new options added take you down a path you dont't want (W2 area)
I have used Turbo Tax for 16 years, minus one year that I went to the BLOCK. Have been very happy with TT but the BLOCK was a disappointment. So I came back to Turbo Tax and will stay with it. Thank you!
What's great about it: Easy to follow their questions
For Tech Service, not Publishing: None of the questions answered in regard to business use of a vehicle are answered on Form 1040 Sch C.
After being asked and answered in regard to single check payment of taxes owed the software wastes my paper by printing four (4) installment Vouchers and one Lump Sum Voucher.
What's great about it: Easy to go from section to section. Questions and examples weel done.
What's not so great: Some data entered does not appear on the Schedules and must be hand entered.
