Federal Tax Return of 2013

It was user-friendly and easy to navigate and file with Turbotax. The income and deduction scenarios were fitted my situation perfectly.
Those who has high and/or various sources of income, investments, all kinds of deduction scenarios and possibly a complicated filing, should see professional assistance to avoid mistakes.
Obviously, Turbotax is not a one-size-fits-all, but certainly is a great filing tool used by CPA-s and other tax pros too.
I am going to utilize Turbotax in the future for my income tax filing.
Thanks again for the seamless, efficient and user friendly software. :-) Please keep up the good work.
What's great about it: Easy navigation between the pages/deductions; detailed to fit, written in plain language, explains the common scenarios
What's not so great: Nothing from me .... worked great as is .... may not be detailed enough for specific situations

My Return

I find turbo tax to be extremely helpful for a non-financial trained person. In particular, dealing with stock options is simple with Turbo tax.
What's great about it: the ability to import information from prior years and certain financial institutions was a tremendous help.
What's not so great: None specifically
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

What's not so great: too much reading Ha ha. I wish the state returns were included.

Gold Standard in Taxes

I have done it two different years, repeating the reporting of my Jan. self employment payment. This year I had a difficult time finding the answer to the question, "Why, no matter what amount I put in for the IRA deduction, did it not change my final tax due?" I finally talked to someone at the IRS and found that NO MATTER WHAT I make AGI/Net income, I do have to pay some taxes. Darn it!
What's great about it: Turbo Tax is easy to use by anyone. It asks you clear, precise questions and does all the hard work and thinking.
What's not so great: I have a habit of repeating the reporting of my January self-employment payment.

after being audit by the IRS in 2007 I wonder if I really needed to claim everything I did as far as if I did not get more back why bother.
What's great about it: Fast and easy for the most part
What's not so great: I had a harder time this year with depreciation of rental properties

major benefits and minor nits

For starters, I had trouble figuring out which version of TurboTax I need. I should have gone to the Intuit website to see the chart comparing the various types.
As someone who has decades of experience doing my own complicated taxes, I resisted using TurboTax, but the automated download and placement in the right fields of stock market trades sold me. TurboTax also minimizes reentry of common data when you have used TurboTax before, and the old forms are stored on the same PC.
On the other hand, following the Q&A method of entering data was disconcerting, because I know where things go, but I was afraid of abandoning the Q&A method temporarily for fear of losing the continuity of the process and obviating the TurboTax benefits.
For example, I have royalty income for which TurboTax somehow missed entering some metadata on Schedule E. I tried doing finding a way to do that manually, but I finally decided it wasn't worth taking a chance on wrecking the process.
What's great about it: automated collection of stock trades from securities accounts
What's not so great: difficulty of accessing particular forms for editing after completing whole process

Tax expert?

Can't find the State Tax form to print for filing.
Trying to navigate around is ridiculous.
Leaves blank spaces than asks me to fill it in before it will go on. So I type in Blank just to get it to move to next.
Send somebody out to watch a dummy do his taxes. I think you will be amazed.
What's great about it: I get to do it myself. Whoopee!
What's not so great: Frustrating as heaven, just ask my wife who has to listen to me.

It was very quick and fairly easy; just needed to cross check numbers for accuracy.
What's great about it: step by step instructions; able to go back to review
What's not so great: Print and Saving Copy Explained
