Very disappointed in this version of TTax, lack of Help links very cumbersome. You need better links to experts to help - even at a fee. Lack of documentation within TTAX is horrible.. This Year's version is poor imitation of previous years. In the past have never thought of looking at other Tax Preparation software - but a repeat of this year will cause me to go else where after over 15 years with TTAX
We have a complicated return with K1's, a small business, 1099's, W2's, extensive donations and property in two states. Turbo Tax found it all except Texas Sales tax, which I had to prompt.
When I entered that the selling price was $70,000, Turbotax should have stopped the process there as there wasn't a way I could have made $250,000 if I only sold it for 70,000. Frustrating to dig up and answer the rest of the questions
A royalty user who used TurboTax for so many years, the user interface for 2013 product is the worst compared with the previous years. It is not that we used to the older flow, it is more confusing. One typical example was that I have to click the back button and redo in order to get to the page I expect (note: you might not clear what I meant, but I won't explain in more details. I just hope someone else also had the same feeling and hope you read more of this confusing part to know what I was referring to).. Another is the schedule D, the combined stock sales lists. It showed the sum of the transaction record, and you have to click on the right place to display all records. Another is not a pro or con but the 'pre-causion' you try to make. Which is if I already imported last year returns, why did you always prompt me to confirm if this number in 2012 is correct or not? I don't even have the full print of last year returns, so I cannot confirm. All I trust the software was that if the 2012 was prepared by TurboTax, and if the import of 2012 did not show errors, then you should not need to ask me to confirm last year numbers. You should display like you did, but I either cannot confirm or do not need to go through troubles to confirm the numbers imported from the previous year file.
I was on the phone 2 hours to figure out how to deduct mileage. My wife works out of the house for a corporation which reimburses her .46 per mile she drives for her job. The government allows 56.5. Turbo tax should make it easier on one page to get the difference in deductions.
After virtually completing my taxes, I could not find out how to apply a portion of my refund toward next year's taxes and get the balance by check. I had to ask a question which, much to my surprise, took me out of Turbo Tax and into your web site. I had to reopen my return and found I had lost some information.
Then, after Turbo Tax had brought over from last years' return the K-1 corporations, it seemed to have lost all of their addresses, which it originally transferred, so I had to go back and enter it again.
And thirdly, I entered in that I had paid tuition for my daughter who lives in another state. I found that I receive no tax benefit for this expense. But then Turbo tax kept insisting that I fill out and file a New York State tax return, even though I have no contact with New York State whatsoever, except for paying tuition to a New York State college.
