overall I love the software. as I continue to use it from year to year I am sure I will learn to move around inside the software and get to where I want to go.
Thanks Richard Koch CPA retired.
What's great about it: good product, made me feel good about the end product
What's not so great: had trouble moving around the various forms. would love to go to a form than swicth to the input screen.
Either someone else is using our SSN for e-filing OR the system sees a set of extensions for Federal and NJ State as a previous e-File. We need help with finding out what is blocking our e-File with correct and verified SSN. Can you help? We will call during M-F normal hours.
What's great about it: Great software, easy to use, but UPDATE LINK to E-FILE FAILED
Despite the fact the step-by-step program is very systematic, a first time user will likely have doubts about the appropriate responses to some items. If mistakes are made, it is extremely difficult to initiate corrections if one has progressed into the questionnaire. Even though there have been improvements over the years, an overview of the process and additional descriptions about how the information is being used would make it easer for a user. The program becomes more understandable and easier to use with experience. The good thing is that after figuring out the instructions and getting the correct information in place, the results and checking is impressive. One improvement would be a description of the records and the best way to organize them before beginning the program. In addition, short descriptions of how the data requested fulfills the reporting requirements would be useful to a person who has little or no understanding of the IRS requirements. I have used Turbo Tax for over 10 years and every year I find a new issue I have to research to understand.
What's great about it: Systematic step-by-step dirctions to results that seem very sound.
What's not so great: Approach makes it nearly impossible to understand what is happening and why. At times 2 answers to question possible.
In the step-by-step mode there was no option to have overpayments carried forward to next year. One had to go to Forms mode to get at that option and the process was very difficult for the NYS form. Entering prior-year estimated taxes for NYS was also a horrendous undertaking.
What's great about it: Found a credit I never heard of
What's not so great: Important issues hidden in background
All in all works great - I use TT every year. I love how it walks me through everything. Suggested improvement: - doesn't seem to always catch errors at the review step (ie: got the all clear, but then something else was pointed out when I e-filed).
What's great about it: walks me through step by step
What's not so great: review step leaves me feeling less than confident
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
I've always had great success in completing returns with TurboTax. They do the necessary income tax review in order for me to simply fill in the numbers. I'm sure that I don't need to read the code since TurboTax has already done so!
What's great about it: Easy to follow instruction; leads through various scenarios; explains in detail what might be missunderstood.
