2014 Taxes

TurboTax is easy to use. Every question is addressed. The format is a simple Q&A. Answer the questions and you are on your way.
On the other hand, the explanations in some areas are not easy to understand. It took me an hour to figure out how to add in our self-employed health insurance. Overriding a line means taxes may not be filed electronically but trying to understand how to enter the info was a crazy maze. We use TurboTax because we are not accountants.
What's great about it: I love the east with which I can do my taxes. TurboTax walks me through every item with an easy Q&A format.
What's not so great: Hate the "tax speak" explanations. Sometimes they are not complete enough to be understood by the regular guy.

Making Taxes Less Awful

The short review. It's as good as it can be. If you enjoy doing taxes, then there is probably something wrong with you, but this at least makes it tolerable.
What's great about it: Easily step by step guidance
What's not so great: Nothing - it's hard for software to fix broken tax laws

System is simpler than on-line filing using federa

I just used TurboTax to complete and file a nonresident state tax return. As a result, my resident state tax return changed. The original resident state return was submitted and accepted electronically. The revised resident state return shows substantially less due. I plan to pay the lesser amount with the new voucher. I anticipate that there will be a problem. It is not my problem. It is yours.
What's great about it: Ease of use
What's not so great: Changed my resident state return AFTER it was filed electronically!

Positive: very comprehensive and uses language that is easy to understand and follow; handles complicated calculations without burdening the user, very trustworthy; does state forms seamlessly and easily. Negative: doesn't follow the Federal tax form sequences and things get confusing and some entries got missed-not always sure where some items are supposed to go; entry "boxes" are difficult to see sometimes; major problems with the Home Office Deduction process (self-employed). It would be nice to have access to the calculations worksheets, especially for the SE form; didn't always pick up prior year TT return info.

Minor issues

For some of us older clients that have been using Turbo Tax for more than 15 years there seems to be less of a logical progression for completing the form. If you could follow the actual 1040 form and help us see how we are progressing it would be more logical.
What's great about it: Easy posting to State tax of Fed. information
What's not so great: Having to discover where to inter specific data
