So Easy !!!

This program is so easy. It walks you through the entire return, one item at a time. It also includes explanations for anything you don't understand throughout the process. I know more about the impact my financial decisions will make on my taxes and don't feel so lost in the snake pit that is the tax code. The program educates as well as aids you in preparing your return.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Less Pain, More Money

I have done my income taxes a variety of ways; hired someone, paper and pencil with the calculator and several computer programs. I am usually filing as an employee, but have done several small side business over the years.
The Turbo Tax program is the easiest way I have found to do income taxes. It still takes time and you still have to be prepared with the paperwork. But it does provide the education and learning about taxes that can make you smarter. Maybe not CPA smart, but if you have to do your taxes anyway, this program does make it as easy as possible. The walk thru steps and check boxes are simple to use. The checks and reviews will eliminate errors.
The down side is you still have to put in the time, pay attention to the details and in the end, pay the taxman.
But the plus side is you will develop the knowlege base you are going to need. For the rest of your life. Because the American dream includes doing taxes till you die.

Easy-peezy

I like Turbo Tax - but I don't like the format change for getting/checking for updates. I liked it better when the prompt for updates came up automatically. It also took a little while to get in touch with a person at Turbo Tax to get help on how to get updates. Once I got in touch with Iris, she was very helpful and was able to get me on the right track. Thanks Iris!

Having been a Turbo tax user for years i was surprised when I completed my entries and did an error check. It found an error referring to my "trade-in". I had no trade in but I took almost an 8 hour day checking all my entries. I found no reason for the "trade-in". I did another error check and it was still there.
I had no choice but to start over with another file name. This cost me two more days but it worked. I did have a problem entering information from a K-1 regarding box 16, line D,E or F but while Turbo tax could have made it easier, I guess that problem was not due to Turbo tax.
All together it took a week to do what should have taken no more than 2 days.

Farm Rental Income reporting was changed from previous years and simply more difficult to follow and complete.
Foreign Taxes was so difficult that I spent considerable time with a TurboTax expert who could not help me so had to sort it out myself.

I have used TurboTax for YEARS and it has been great.
I used to get "math overload" and "language confusion" when doing it by myself.
The helpline is wonderful. I have use the online chat and the phone line for help. The staff is very patient and sincere. They have never failed me. (it has usually been my fault that I need help.)
I use the home and business version and have it sent automatically every year. That gets me going early, so any of my glitches can be cleared up before the 15th.
