Fairly easy to do but some items that were entered would show up in a different part of the return which made it a bit confusing
What's great about it: Concise

Love Turbo But...

Have used Turbo Tax for years and trust it! Will buy it again. This year the 2013 version ate my 2012 forms rendering the whole 2012 and 2013 programs useless.
When I reopened 2013, it started looking for updates and then it began importing 2012 and the problem started. The 2013 renamed itself 2012 and I could not open anything at all after that.
I had to start all over, reload the disk and enter all my information into the program by hand without the convenience of importing the info from the previous year.
There is always a problem year after year but even so I will buy it again because it is the best available out there.
What's great about it: User friendly language and a step by step approach
What's not so great: The software still has some glitches

Not such a good experience

I had 2 bad experiences this year which has caused me to give this "bad" review. So bad that I may not buy it again next year and I have used this software for a long time.
Setting the stage for my bad experience my company in 2012 that I had worked for, for 36 years was bought and I was let go with many other people. I went into my own business in 2012 and used Turbo Tax that year with a schedule C. 2013 was a good year and I needed an accountant to help me out. Here are my problems
1) The accountant uses the professional Intuit tax preperation software which takes an import from Turbo Tax. I did most of the tax return myself and imported my Quick Books into Turbo Tax and then handed it to my accountant to finish up schedule C. He does and he has an exported file that I can do nothing with. I can't import the accountant's copy into my tax return so that I can use it next year. My only options are to hand enter what the accountant did, or let the accountant do the entire return next year and I don't need to buy any tax software. Poor in my opinion. Imports and exports should go BOTH ways.
2) Here is a huge problem with the tax software. It saw 1/2 of 2012 with a W2 and 1/2 with an LLC schedule C. It based my quarterly payments on that which I had no idea. In 2013 I owe a significant amount of money to both federal and the state even though I made my quarterly payments in the amount that Turbo Tax told me to. The result is fines by the State of Connecticut. I had NO W2 in 2013. It should have asked me a question about the W2 before it told me what my next years obligations were.
What's great about it: Brings forward last years information
What's not so great: Not compatible with Intuits accountant tax software

Overall a very good product that allows me to prepare a somewhat complex tax return with minimal difficulty. Easy to navigate through the sections and back up and redo when necessary.
What's great about it: Easy to enter required information, easy to usderstand considering the complexity of the tax laws.
What's not so great: Would like to be able to print pages that are displayed.

I have been successfully using TurboTax home and business for several years, and it has worked pretty well for me. Luckily I know a fair amount about how taxes work so even when TT does some strange calculation I can override and fix. I wish TT would explain more about unexpected situations, such as why certain deductions are not availble for you that you got last year, why some forms are no longer there that were last year, and how things are calculated differently this time, or more guidance about how to make some choices when there are different options of where to put in certain entries. It would also be really nice to be able to add personal notes to entries when desired that are not included in filing and are private but help you remember what something was for or why you put certain numbers in certain places. Difficult to find things in forms mode and follow flows from one form to another.
What's great about it: Fairly easy to use and comprehensive information
What's not so great: Could explain some things better
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

A very major tax break for me is writing off my home office rent. This is not covered properly when the program walks you through everything. It only asks for your address in the beginning and then it skips the part where you write in how much you pay and how much square footage is used for the office. And it never takes you back to the important part where you put that important info in, you have to find it yourself later and the section where you do this is is hard to find and it not intuitive for those who are not aware. This is a major deduction for me so not sure why it's so hidden away in the program. I was going crazy trying to figure out how to write this off. Other than that major flaw the rest of the program worked fairly well.
What's great about it: walks you through almost everything easily
What's not so great: one very important section (how much my home office rent costs) is not included in the walk through
Pros: I moved

Not as good as it used to be

I have used this product for many years. I was very disappointed this year. To start with I had some small issues to deal with and the program did not compute the recapture, instead it told me how to do it manually, if I wanted to do this I would not have purchases software!
The second issue I have is they removed the comparison to other in your tax bracket, I have no idea why they would do this.
If the comparison is not brought back I will not be using this product next year.
What's great about it: The deduction finder is helpful
What's not so great: No help with sec 179 recapture, they removed the comparison to others in your bracket
Pros: I bought or sold investments
