It would be easy to create a long article of merits and benefits of TurboTax. I have used it since the first year it was created. Over the years it has improved tremendously. While nothing is perfect for everyone, this program is awfully good, and for me, saves an an extraordinary amount of time over the old pencil, eraser, paper forms, desk or hand calculator, and then redo the worn out forms from erasing. If you are not perfectly organized, figures and information can be entered out of sequence, then subsequently modified by additions, deletions, and changes as they are located. The program always recalculates to reveal present status. No ereasing !
There are multiple suggestions and reminders with many categories of input when using the step-by-step process. However, if you want to simply enter information into the tax form itself instead of the TurboTax question sequence, you can do that too. Every year the program saves me many hours and helps me find the correct places to enter various categories of data.
While I am accustomed to being able to right click a window where an amount can be entered, thus bringing up another window where multiple items can be entered, sorted, and automatically tallied, for new users, that information should be provided.
What's great about it: Easily enter and organize multiple donations to multiple organizations. Can keep coming back as needed.
What's not so great: Some information windows can be read but not selectable for printing. Should inform of ability to right click entries
I had a lot of changes in my life this year that impacted my taxes. I figured I would struggle with my 2013 return....but not so with TurboTax. They made it easy to file!
What's great about it: Simple to use...good instructions
I found data entry screens did not follow my logic for preparing the tax return. Some multiple entries under a topic required repetitive keystrokes, instead of just letting filer enter the data. ie. One account with several similar entries.
What's great about it: 1.Ease of entering data. 2.Works well with downloading data from financial service. 3.Screen layout good.
What's not so great: 1.Did not keep information from last years tax return. 2.Does not do comparisons of previous years tax returns.
Example I want to prepare voucher for State estimated taxes for 2014 Spent an hour going over and the return and so far no luck. This type of programming is difficult to follow and it leaves a lot to be desired.
I thought since I was in a Domestic Partnership that this was going to be very complicated. The tool walked me through all the steps and it was much easier than I had anticipated.
Make it easier to put in charitable information by permitting it to go in as a single listing rather than one by one with many clicks required for each item.
What's great about it: Easy to follow and comprehensive
What's not so great: Took longer to import things like chariable donations
If you want to do your own taxes, then TurboTax is the way to go. who else provides independent software that allows you to do taxes personally and confidentially.
What's great about it: Streamlined for the modern world, with indexes, automated or manual options, and plenty of guidlines
What's not so great: the price is high, but the service is excellent
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved, I bought or sold investments
