Got a whole lot easier

It made my tax preparation a whole lot easier and I can do it at my leisure and in the comfort of my home. before, I had to grab all of my documents and take it to the tax pro. It usually meant several trips because I would forget something. i found out by using your program that he was not asking all of the questions. all of that is behind me now.
What's great about it: Asked all of the right questions without the hassle of a tax pro making you seem dumb or stupid.
What's not so great: I can't think of any negatives that are Turbo Tax's fault.

I HATE that I cannot access last year's return after transferring data. It just keeps asking me if I want to transfer data AGAIN.

My Returns

Checked Turbo Tax Community for assistance and received some help there. Called and talked with an Intuit representative who was especially helpful in walking me through my returns (state returns) to find the error (Case #408279062 on 3/29/14).
Also, downloaded the already provided state software by mistake. Contacted Intuit and they not only allowed me to download my second state for free but refunded me for the first mistaken download (Case # 407971438 on 3/16/14)! Truly went above and beyond, for that!
What's great about it: Extensive development of product over the years; covers all tax bases.
What's not so great: Even with the helps, sometimes unsure how to answer certain tax questions.

As it turns out, we only neeeded the premier version, not the home and business version. If you have only one rental or dividends, it may not be necessary to use the business version. Also, as noted, things are in a different order than the 1040 as you go through question and answer. This meant I had to keep going on blind faith that they would get to something. It really helps to be able to go back and forth to the forms, and I feel like the present question and answer is actually more difficult than older versions that used the same wording as the forms, but explained it. As it was I got lost a couple of times this year, and I've been doing my own taxes with turbotax for 13 years
What's great about it: covered everything
What's not so great: not in the same order as the 1040, made it confusing if we might have skipped something
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Keeping up with complicated changes

I have been doing my taxes with turbo tax for more than 10 years. TT has done an excellent job keeping up with the ever increasing complexity of the tax code as well as keeping track of my data and entries year to year to aid in accurate filing for next year.
The only problem I have found is that stock sales that generate gains/losses for partnerships are reported by both the brokerage companies (on 1099) and by the partnership on K-1s. The TT program imports both of these and therefore the gain/loss is reported twice, with the brokerage reporting needing to be removed since the K-1 has the appropriate basis cost.
What's great about it: TurboTax has kept up with all complex changes and tracks my data from year to year
What's not so great: Duplication of gains and losses reported by broker and on a K-1
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Quick and easy

TurboTax was easy to use. I created my own tax return and then my cousin's tax return. We were both very pleased with the depth of questions - more thorough than a similarly priced "tax service" would be.
On my home&business return I had to manually erase a couple of entries that TurboTax had created, but since I knew that they did not apply, I was not concerned.
Since my cousin was due a refund, we used the free federal e-file option for her return. Since the state e-file would eat into her refund, and since Virginia is very quick, we opted for the paper filing for the state return. Two hours and done!
Now that all federal e-file is free for more than one tax return, I used e-file for my federal tax return as well. I can still put off sending the IRS a check until the last minute. :) Like my cousin, I opted for paper filing for the state return.
What's great about it: Walked me through every income and deduction topic
What's not so great: Had a minor glitch on the Federal forms
