Made filing easy
on April 4, 2014
Posted by: Mantis7
I had been using Turbo Tax for years. Went to a CPA last couple of years. Turbo Tax asked questions CPA did not. My return was more complete with Turbo Tax and my tax obligation was lower. I am very satisfied with this software.
Search bar could be improved. A search for Business software deductions showed no subject found. Several other item searches had same results.
What's great about it: Complete and helpful program
What's not so great: search bar showed no results for certain topics

two fixes

It would be helpful to color a section as complete when you've done it, versus leaving it blue for edit...I never really knew what sections I competed or had to input data.
I owe MD state taxes and had to print a form EL101 to mail. There was no information telling me WHERE to mail the form.

Lacked easy way to enter 1099-s information which was received for timber sales.
I had three dividends listed in federal but only two carried over to State
What's great about it: Easy navigation
What's not so great: Some data did not transfer to State
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Did it right
on April 4, 2014

Overall was an easy system to use. My only complaint was that the stocks I sold was extremely hard to input. I had to go into each individual transaction and answer the same question, over 50 different times. There should be some method of checking all of them at one time.
What's great about it: Easy to use
What's not so great: The Oklahoma income was difficult to use

More complex tax code can confuse
on April 4, 2014
Posted by: cwyattc
I had to file a more complex tax return this year and for the first time in over 5 years I found that using turbo tax was not as helpful and in some cases could lead to errors requiring backing up substantially and clearing out data in sections previously completed. This may be a result of the ever evolving and complex tax code.
What's great about it: Generally pretty easy to work through for simple tax situations
What's not so great: More complex situations can result in errors requiring corrections if initially started to fill in a section
Pros: I bought or sold investments

The TV ad regarding packing and unpacking
on April 4, 2014

Excellent interrogatories that led me through supplying all relevant information. Your ad regarding packing and unpacking your own moving boxes is spot on.
What's great about it: i am the best source for my tax situation.
What's not so great: State sales tax materials were delayed

It got me through it!
on April 4, 2014

I've used TurboTax for about 4 years now. Its very convenient and pretty straightforward. My main problem with it is when errors are discovered on the tax form. The program takes you directly to the line on the actual tax form, not the place in the wizard program where the error occurred. Its sometimes hard to determine what the error is.
What's great about it: Step by step process; easy to go back and add or subtract items.
What's not so great: A bit hard to figure out when there are errors on the return.

Not as Good as Prior Years / Some Serious Problems
on April 4, 2014
Posted by: davekolhoff
There were several places where if I had not used the back button, I wouldn't have realized that I missed screens.
The topic list was not near detailed enough to allow for easy movement throughout the program and when I saved my work, it would send be back to a prior point where I had to reenter the information. The flags helped some, but that was a bit clumsy.
What's great about it: Appears to be thorough.
What's not so great: Skipped Screens
