TurboTax price recommendation
on April 5, 2014
Posted by: rigel20
Pricing of this product should include pricing for state e-filing.. State filing should be built-in and free. To many states it is free.
What's great about it: quick import from many locations now.. awesome w2 and other import features
What's not so great: Pricing in stores should include efiling (not an additional cost)

Overall, a great way to do a thorough job on taxes.
What's great about it: Step by step clear instructions are easy to follow.
What's not so great: When I did the review for my husband's company trucks, I wasn't sure which truck was being referred to. Hope its right.

Our First Joint Return
on April 5, 2014
Posted by: JayandSteve
Filing our first joint tax return was easy and straight forward for us, a same-gender marrried couple. Unfortunately, we live in Oklahoma which is a state that not only does not recognize our marriage, but we are prohibited from filing our state tax jointly. TurboTax did a pretty good job but when it came to doing separate state returns, but was a bit confusing and at one point, downright frustrating. I have one state return done and filed and one more to go. I am hoping the experience and lessons learned with the first return will help me get through the remaining return. When all is said and done, I like TurboTax and will continue to use it in future years and recommend it to others.
What's great about it: Great for Federal.
What's not so great: Not so great for state: Instructions are confusing and initially hard to find.

Review of Turbo Tax 2013

Remember where I was when I close the program and start there when I start the program.
Be able to print double sided forms. The program should be smart enough to know when a form is two sided and be able to print both sides on one sheet to save paper.
What's not so great: When reopening the program to continue, it will always start at the beginning. It will not remember where you stop.

Finally we can e-file as married jointly!
on April 5, 2014

I've been using TurboTax for over a decade to prepare and file both our federal and state (California) income taxes. The last few years prior to the 2013 tax year had been rather cumbersome and time-consuming because we were not allowed to file our taxes as a married couple until this year. We have business income and investment income from multiple sources, and both of those had been quite challenging to manage between the federal and state returns. FINALLY we are able to use a straight-forward process to prepare both our federal and state returns that is fully supported by TurboTax--I didn't encounter any situations that it couldn't handle this time around. Still, I think my many years of experience in preparing my own taxes has been essential in making the process go smoothly. I'm not sure how easily I could've done it had I lacked experience. Next year should go even more smoothly since I should be able to import this year's returns--I couldn't do that from 2012 because of all the changes related to our marital status. Unfortunately, TurboTax doesn't let you import from multiple past returns, nor pick and choose what information gets imported--it's basically all or nothing. Either way, I'm satisfied with the product and plan to use it again for our 2014 taxes.
What's great about it: handles all our current personal and business situations
What's not so great: couldn't import prior year returns due to status change

This was the first year I used Turbo Tax after having an accountant do my return for years. I'm not easy and I have a complicated return. I took advantage of the paid support TurboTax offers. Worth every penny!
Next year I will attempt my corporate return as well.
What's great about it: Excellent support! Very thorough.
What's not so great: Nothing
Pros: I bought or sold investments
