Ease of use

This is an easy way to do your own taxes without paying someone else. In these days of security breaches, I'd just as soon no one but those who need my financial information get access to it. I'll do it myself and Turbotax makes that possible. Our forms were rejected the first time because I had typed the wrong digit in a social security number by a single digit. It was easy to correct the error and refile.
What's great about it: Lack of tax people jargon and ability to make corrections.
What's not so great: I wasn't able to import personal infor from last year's forms.

2013 taxes

I have used TurboTax for over 10 years and have never had a problem with the product. This year I had a problem with the operating system on my computer and had to change computers when nearly done. The transition was done easily. I do both my son and daughters taxes as well so I was in fear of losing data.
I would like to see a bill for e-filing prior to sending and a way to not be billed if the e-file fails. I don't remember exactly why but one year I paid and then had to print and mail a state tax form in as well.
Your phone support is awesome. I am not the most computer literate person around and even still they were able to guide me through problems I would have never been able to do on my own. My hat is off to them.
What's great about it: Flow of information from one year to the next. Great customer service
What's not so great: I have in past years paid for e-filing but not been able to complete the process for one reason or another.
Pros: I moved, My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

some problems
on April 6, 2014

After virtually completing my taxes, I could not find out how to apply a portion of my refund toward next year's taxes and get the balance by check. I had to ask a question which, much to my surprise, took me out of Turbo Tax and into your web site. I had to reopen my return and found I had lost some information.
Then, after Turbo Tax had brought over from last years' return the K-1 corporations, it seemed to have lost all of their addresses, which it originally transferred, so I had to go back and enter it again.
And thirdly, I entered in that I had paid tuition for my daughter who lives in another state. I found that I receive no tax benefit for this expense. But then Turbo tax kept insisting that I fill out and file a New York State tax return, even though I have no contact with New York State whatsoever, except for paying tuition to a New York State college.
What's great about it: After 4 years working with Turbo Tax, I have finally learned how to avoid problems and work through my taxes.
What's not so great: Dropped data, confusing filing and question format

Mileage Deduction
on April 6, 2014

I was on the phone 2 hours to figure out how to deduct mileage. My wife works out of the house for a corporation which reimburses her .46 per mile she drives for her job. The government allows 56.5. Turbo tax should make it easier on one page to get the difference in deductions.
What's great about it: None
What's not so great: Make it easier

Total tax clarity

Overall, I'm totally satisfied with Turbo Tax, and I couldn't imagine doing taxes any other way. Thanks for a great product!
What's great about it: AWESOME to be able to import prior year's information & save tons of time. VERY clear questions about tax situations.
What's not so great: When revisiting some sections, you wade through questions you've already answered, which isn't 100% efficient.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Home and Business Turbotax

A royalty user who used TurboTax for so many years, the user interface for 2013 product is the worst compared with the previous years. It is not that we used to the older flow, it is more confusing. One typical example was that I have to click the back button and redo in order to get to the page I expect (note: you might not clear what I meant, but I won't explain in more details. I just hope someone else also had the same feeling and hope you read more of this confusing part to know what I was referring to).. Another is the schedule D, the combined stock sales lists. It showed the sum of the transaction record, and you have to click on the right place to display all records. Another is not a pro or con but the 'pre-causion' you try to make. Which is if I already imported last year returns, why did you always prompt me to confirm if this number in 2012 is correct or not? I don't even have the full print of last year returns, so I cannot confirm. All I trust the software was that if the 2012 was prepared by TurboTax, and if the import of 2012 did not show errors, then you should not need to ask me to confirm last year numbers. You should display like you did, but I either cannot confirm or do not need to go through troubles to confirm the numbers imported from the previous year file.
What's great about it: It worked
What's not so great: The user experience is not the same as previous years
