After using a tax prep service for many years this was nearly as quick and painless and a third of the price. Lots of the data was pulled in automatically, and adjustments and deduction were very simple to track and enter. Very clear instructions and plenty of online help. I had a bit of confusion with HSA data entry, but it was easily resolved in the help forums by looking at prior questions.
What's great about it: can access the underlying forms, easy to organize information, save return to pdf, pull data from w2 automatically
In 2013, I traded in my business use van for a new one. Filling out the vehicle information forms for this situation was not as automated as I think it should have been. None of the information on the trade-in van was imported from prior year returns -- but it could have been. I think you should look into this possibility. I had to dig through my records and (gasp) file drawers to find the purchase date, price and previous mileage figures of my old van when these thing were existing in prior year TurboTax files stored on my computer. Turbo tax should be able to import this stuff. It's not an unusual tax situation.
What's great about it: Have used this for years. Basically, a good system.
What's not so great: Business use car trade-in was not "TurboTax easy."
So for years, I have had a CPA do my taxes. Now that I'm retired, I have taken the time to do them myself with Turbotax. It is much easier than expected, and best of all, I am learning little nuances about deductions.
What's great about it: easy to use, good help features
What's not so great: sometimes hard to change entries
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved
Generally easy, however it is sometimes difficult to have to go through all the questions again to change one part of of area.
Also, I could not figure out how you could put in a contribution plan rate for SEP contributions so I had to calculate and figure out how to make my owner adjusted rate myself.
What's great about it: User friendly
What's not so great: Having to do business calculations on your own.
