Pretty easy

I've used an accountant for years but I know he was using a computer product. I decided to save the money and do it myself this year. The prep work is the same, after that the rest was pretty easy.

I believe that based on the extreme complexity of the federal and state tax codes, Turbo Tax is the best solution to this issue. Its hard to understand much less keep up the tax code and I don't have time to take a course. Besides that would be totally outdated in 2-3 years anyway based on the changes taking effect. The big selling point was that for years I did my state taxes as best I could manually and paid the state $300 to $800 each year. The first year I used TurboTax I received a refund. I had somehow been overpaying my state taxes for all those years. That was it I'm a conver to TurboTax.
What's great about it: Saves Time- Simplifies the Complex- Enhances my feelings of security-
What's not so great: Sometimes I wonder whats going on

FOR THE 2012 YEAR I GOT THE FORMS FOR THE FOREGN BANK ACCOUNT SIGNATURE AUTHORITY TO REPORT.
I DID NOT GET ANY INSTRUCTIONS OR FORMS FOR 2013 EVEN THOUGH I INDICATED THAT I HAVE A SIGNATURE AUTHORITY IN A FOREIGN BANK ACCOUNT.

Indispensable but I want more

TurboTax is pretty much indispensable to me. Still I have a few pet peeves year after year.
I wish it were better about supplying context ("here's why we need to ask you this" or "here's why the answer might not make any difference and you might be able to just skip this"). I feel like I spend considerable time investigating answers to questions that won't make any difference to what I owe this year.
Also, TT should be better about carrying forward information from year to year. It really bugs me to be asked arcane questions about things like IRA bases that TT ought to know: "I've been doing my taxes with TT forever. If TT doesn't know my non-deductible IRA basis, why the heck not!? Isn't it carried over from year to year? Shouldn't you at least tell me whether you have saved any data from previous years?"
Also, I wish there were a way to attach arbitrary data to things that will be carried forward so that I could, say, save a mileage reading in association with my car (otherwise, I have to maintain that offline). Pretty much anything that might be used from year to year (car, house, rental property, other asset) ought to have a box where you can record arbitrary info that helps you track information needed to keep your tax info straight.
I really wish there were better traceability in the product: If I go to a form, I should be able to right-click and get a list of the previous forms/worksheets that contributed to calculating a value.
So, it's not perfect, but I'll probably continue using it (unless/until I find something better).
What's great about it: 90% is good

Love Turbo Tax!!! Takes all the intimidation of filing Federal and State returns. Love to watch the refund amount grow! Fast, effective and efficient and costs less than a tax preparer.

I would not consider any other tax preparation program. Why try to change when it does everything flawlessly.
What's great about it: Easy, thorough, comprehensive

Been using Turbo Tax for years and would never use anything else!
What's great about it: helped figure out various capital gains and IRA issues to our benefit
What's not so great: sometimes when reviewing we had to reenter all numbers again instead of just spot checking
Pros: I bought or sold investments
