Bad Ommissions by Turbo Tax

No option to apply a refund to next years taxes appeared on the window where you specified what to do with the refund. You could only mail a check to yourself or direct deposit to your bank. You had to go to community help and then struggle through getting to the correct place.
You could not change the amount on the ES forms for printing. You were stuck with what TT calculated. Since Obamacare is wiping out my medical deduction (10% of income disallowed in 2014 versus 7.5% disallowed in 2013); mortgage interest will go down and a large Charity contribution will disappear, my taxes will go up on the same income.
There was no help at all to calculate the minimum required distribution (RMD) for IRAs. Your age is known. The 12/31/2013 val;ue of your IRAs, 401ks and 403bs is known. Turbotax should calculate your RMD and warn you so that tax penalties can be avoided. This is a standard service if you hire an outside agent to do your taxes.
What's great about it: Interview was clearer this year
What's not so great: No clear option to apply refund to next year and change printed ES forms
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Improve Assesability
on April 7, 2014

I am legally blind and use a software screen reader called zoom text. I found that my screen reader had difficulty reading the text in turbo tax 2013. I have used this screen reader on other intuit products and have had no problems. I suggest that you improve your acsessability features in Turbo Tax. There is a growing population with visual problems.
What's great about it: Preperation and a quick refund.
What's not so great: Zoom Text 10.1 screen reader did not work well with Turbo Tax.

More Popup Explanations Please

I like most everything about Turbo tax except it's handling of IRA pensions and Social Security deductions on my state return.
The total IRA and SS Income reported on my Federal return didn't match the deductions on my State return and no explanation was given for the amount entered.
To find out why I had to delve deep into the state instructions to find that they allow different amounts for different ages.
I think Turbo Tax should have popped up an explanation of why they didn't match.
What's great about it: Walk through
What's not so great: Explanation of State deductions to income

User Unfriendly

If you have to go back, then you have to go through everything you already did to get back to where you started. Took us 3 hours to file this year, usually only take about an hour!! That's going down hill pretty fast!!
What's great about it: have been using for years, no trouble till this year
What's not so great: harder to use, not as "user friendly" as previous years

TurboTax has been 100% accurate by my observations over the last 12 to 15 years. The program guides you through what's needed in logical order. If you aren't careful, you may answer questions in a way that leads you off track, and getting back to the place to make the correction requires knowledge of the tax forms. I recommend printing the state return when trying to understand the state taxes. If you are new to taxes, you should also get the federal forms and instructions, if you want to understand what you're doing, which I recommend.
What's great about it: Accurate
What's not so great: Navagation can be confusing.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments
