Love this program. It lets me do my taxes at my own pace. Dont have to rush and do it all at once. Finds deductions I didnt know I could get. Great peace of mind......
What's great about it: Lets me do my taxes at my own pace
I have used this product for many years and found it to be intuitive and easy to use for my taxes and home business. My only criticism is that if an error is found, no help is provided and you need to root out where the problem is and why.
The lack of a decent Quicken for Mac means that we cannot import our business account data since we have to use a competitive product (the Mac version is nothing like as comprehensive as the PC version). Once Intuit produce a Qucken for the Mac we can use, we will be happy. Meanwhile TurboTax remains THE product to use for your taxes.
What's great about it: Easy to use. Leads you through a complex process in a simple manner. Well documented.
What's not so great: Errors found in return can be reported in an confusing manner. Does not lead you through the correction process.
Form 8949 was used to report capital gains on several mutual funds. I downloaded info from my broker, which included mutual funds with broker calculated basis and no basis, which transferred onto a single 8949. Reported basis and non reported basis have to be submitted on separate 8949 forms. There was no easy way to delete info on the initial 8949, and add it to another 8949 (the program would not recognize my request for a second copy of the 8949). Had to eliminate the first 8949 and do all the input separately, wasting about 2 hours of time.
What's great about it: Most input is straightforward
What's not so great: Reporting capital gains was confusing and time consuming
While it turned out that I received a larger refund than I expected for federal, I was confused in the section on the sale of my home and purchase of home in new state. I am hoping that I got it right.
I felt that I should have received most all of my state tax returned since I only lived here for 4 months but we ended up owing money which I still don't understand.
What's great about it: It was easy to get through
What's not so great: I was worried that I didn't understand what was being asked.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved, I bought or sold investments
