Poor showing on foreign tax credits

The software recommended using foreign tax credits instead of deducations. This meant form 1116 would have to be filed. I filled out the complete foreign tax information in the software as directed. When I went to have the taxes reviewed, the software kept finding 2 errors on form 1116. It was not possible to correct these errors because there were no directions as to what was required. I even printed out form 1116 with instructions and still couldn't figure it out. So I did not take the redit but instead took the deduction (actually I've had to do this 2 years in a row). My foreign taxes are not complicated - it's just from a mutual fund that has a few foreign holdings. But Turbo tax doesn,t know how to handle the tax credit properly.

Non-resident state return filing issues

Federal return was easy to complete and file.
Non-resident state returns are difficult to complete and file because the interest and capital gins are not easy to exclude.
There should be a simple question that allows a tax preparer to do just that.
What's great about it: Federal Return was very easy to file as usual.

Great Product

I have used the home and business version for 10 years. The product is easy to use and understand. My only fault with it is that it could go more into detail as to what is deductible in relation to your job or business expenses. If you don't tell it what to deduct it will not ask.
What's great about it: easy to use for first time users
What's not so great: could use a link for free efile for state returns!!!

Used to be guided through a series of very specific questions with more examples provided--really helped me identify deductions I had overlooked in the past. I had to go out of the site multiple times to get more information and know of at least a few items I was never sure where to list, so I missed those deductions.
What's great about it: Easy step by step method
What's not so great: I don't find it as helpful as it used to be.

Very thoroughly access my deductions. Made very sure I received all my benefits. Refund compares to what I was receiving from a professional tax preparer at about 1/3 of the cost.
