not happy with the help function..i used it for the 1st time this year...could not get real turbo tax expert help, only the "community" help and i got conflicting answers. i thought you had professional help available, but i coudn't find how to get it. very confusing. seemed like it was intentional. also i purchased home and business version, later to find out it was not appropriate for what i needed.
What's great about it: fairly easy to use, sometimes confusing
What's not so great: not always sure that it is doing what you want it to
I appreciated the easy use of Turbo tax program. The Audit check was wonderful. I was able to request the forms I needed and they all followed suit making it easy to complete my return. The program allowed me to save my return and my children's returns and the e-filing was simple. I will use Turbo tax next year and will highly recommend it to family and friends.
What's great about it: Choosing the forms I needed.
I've used turbo tax literally for 20 years, dating back to the old Windows DOS days. I've found doing my taxes myself using turbo tax and the step-by-step method to be the only way to insure I collected and put ALL the information for business, personal income, stocks, interest, tuition reimbursement and other areas. Just handing what you "hope" are all the records needed to an accountant does not insure you did not forget a specific required tax area - as they do not ask all of the detailed questions turbo tax does.
What's great about it: step by step is good
What's not so great: the 10980-Q education entry area was confusing and not clear.
I am a CPA and have used many tax software programs over 40 years of practice. Professional programs have been available to me until this year, because of semi-retirement. I was skeptical at first but quickly became an advocate.
Turbo tax anticipates every question I have and has an answer for them. It instills confidence in its users because it is thorough and easy to use. The program sort of says "let me drive for you, I'll ask you necessary questions, and will get you there safely and as quickly as possible."
E-filing is so smooth and efficient. I am very satisfied. I turned a few clients down this year, now I wish I hadn't.
Thanks, Headbeancounter
What's great about it: So easy. Thorough. Anticipates questions and has answers for those questions. Research resources. Easy to efile.
I appreciate how TurboTax can retrieve info from the previous year's return. That saves some time and provides good suggestions and reminders.
I also find TurboTax pretty thorough. If it doesn't ask about the situation, it probably doesn't arise.
But I don't like the way it handles State Tax Refunds. They are reported to the taxpayer on Form 1099 G, like other kinds of payments from the state such as Unemployment benefits. But TT doesn't get around to those refunds until some unrelated topic well down the line.
What's great about it: Pretty thorough.
What's not so great: State Tax Refunds are not handled in straightforward fashion
