Overall, 2013 better than 2012, but finished product not commensurate with software price increases.
Section 179 review guidance confusing and could have been easily clarified. Appears not have been checked by independent users.
Tax advice lacking. User group type inputs are not always reliable and often relate opinions and not necessarily fact. Previous editions of TT ( I believe prior to 2010) provided professional guidance for standard questions and also made IRS publications easily available.
Backward link from State to Federal not apparent, e.g., received State employee pension credit and TT stated to correct input on Federal return. No direct link or instruction available for entering on Federal return. Had to call IRS for proper method of input.
What's great about it: 2013 turbo tax better than 2012 edition
What's not so great: Section 179 review confusing andreview lacked simplified explanations. Tax advice not professional
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved, I bought or sold investments
Customer service helped us out, but we didn't realize that what we thought had been submitted before the extension, didn't actually go thru. The good news, we saved $900... so it was worth it.
What's great about it: on second call with TurboTax we got excellent help finding the areas that needed correction
What's not so great: the usual in-system check didn't seem to work when we THOUGHT we filed on 1014
Fairly easy to use software. Nice integration with other financial institutions...for downloading. When moving from a CPA to doing it yourself, it's a little scary and using them to check it out when you're done is inconvenient for them since the software does NOT allow you to take it with you on a jump drive to open up and amend elsewhere...that would be nice and maybe it is available somehow how to do it but I don't know how to do that if possible.
What's great about it: Great to download stock, etc information online
What's not so great: Not an accountant so difficult to talk to them to help correct, especially since they are not familiar with how it works
Intuit continues to bring the premier tax product to the market. geared toward both the novice and advanced tax preparer. it really makes annual tax preparation relatively simple. I no longer drudge the tax process.
What's great about it: ease of use, connectivity, error check, help topics, comparative to prior years, charitable link with its deductible
What's not so great: none.
Pros: I moved, My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
You need to leave E-File. My return was kicked back and I couldn't e-File. Ask for another fee for the use. I would Pay. It took another 6 days to finish with all the paper.
What's great about it: Easy to use
What's not so great: Can't E-File after April 15th
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
I am very disappointed with turbo tax this year. I should have been able to efile my state return even tho the federal could not. I paid to e-file the state return, have not received a refund, and cannot e-file the state return, despite your statement that a rejected return could be filed by Oct. 20. Today is the 20 of Oct. and I have unsuccessfully tried to e-file the state return. Obviously, you have already shut everything down. I am also disappointed that there are no telephone numbers to contact you, regarding problems with your system. You are very willing to take our money, but don't want to help when we need it.
