I've used TurboTax for more than a decade, after decades of doing my returns by hand. When I had more complications than I was willing to handle on paper, I bought the software. I combine the directed step-by-step with, as needed, focusing in on particular topics to fix an error I noticed in what I'd originally entered or to add information I skipped over before. The hard part is getting all of my documents organized. TurboTax makes the rest relatively painless.
What's great about it: Step by step. Easy enough to go back and edit, correct if needed. Does the calculations and fills in the forms.
What's not so great: No particular issues or problems.
I suggest a spinning wheel, hourglass or other indication that the program is executing a command. I found myself clicking repeatedly, wondering if the click took.
What's great about it: everything
What's not so great: cant tell whether the program is thinking. There is often a delay after clicking and sometime it is long.
