Have used TT for years; convenient but bad website
What's great about it: Easy step-by-step process; good generation of worksheets & other documents; convenient e-filing
What's not so great: Navigation outside of step-by-step sometimes awkward; very unreliable web site/tech support

Mostly reliable as always

I have used TurboTax since the product was introduced and overall it gets a little easier to use each year.
This year, though, I was disappointed that the Ohio state tax forms did not automate the new small business deduction and instead simply directed me to the state department of taxation for a paper copy of the form. The SBD was passed last spring so I think Turbotax had plenty of time to incorporate this change to Ohio law.
What's great about it: The step by step process keeps getting better.
What's not so great: State return
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Straightforward entries.

Transferring the entries of the previous year saves time and is important in actually seeing how your finances have impacted your current tax year.
What's great about it: The questions were easy to understand.
What's not so great: In the review section, sometimes after making the corrections they would not change.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Problems with revised information from K-1forms
on April 10, 2014

from Peterson, MN
Did not recognize changes I made in K-1 information after my initial entries, and consequently displayed "errors"which wouldn't allow me to e-file.
Should offer the option to ignore errors. I believe the older version did that. I liked that better.
What's great about it: Good updates; produces accurate results.
What's not so great: Navigation issues: too many repetitive steps.

Making complexity Easy

TurboTax makes completing my tax return manageable. We have rental property, a home office; retirement, IRAs, and consulting incomes that combine to make a very complex return. I sleep well at night knowing that TurboTax is looking over my shoulder as I complets my returns
What's great about it: the software makes negotiating a very complex series of tax area both individually simple but also internally consistent
What's not so great: Tax codes are way too complex for anyone other than an IRS accountant. Some questions from TurboTax are beyond the aver

Well done with a few tech glitches

It's a shame about the difficulty in getting TurboTax to install on some computers. I tried two different desktops and neither would load. One was running XP, the other Vista. It was only when I installed to my laptop that I got it working. Once it was installed, it worked fine.
So, the caveat here is to remember that the program might not install on every machine. Other than that, I really liked the walkthrough. It made me a lot less fearful of taking incorrect expense deductions. And, it figured out that my wife and my standard deduction was a better bet than our itemized deductions.
What's great about it: Great walkthrough on deductible business expenses
What's not so great: Would not load on two of my computers
