I have been using TT for 10 years and I find it easy and reliable. I recommend it to anyone who has more than an EZ tax return to file. It has helped me find deductions I never knew I had coming back to me.
What's great about it: simple and easy to follow, walks you through every area.
I always used Turbo Tax so I cannot compare it to the others. I do find it relatively fast and mostly easy to use. With my level of form 1040, it is easy to get lost on what they mean by certain terms. but any mistakes can be corrected. Like most other stuff in life, I think you have to not be in too much in a hurry, review, review and review before you hit send. Correcting what the IRS thinks was a mistake is hard enough, no sense making one on purpose because you are in a hurry.
What's great about it: Its getting easier to review last year's return to do this year's
What's not so great: It kept creating spare forms and then said they was an error on them
I've used TurboTax to manage my tax returns since 2007. Each year the software appears easier and more intuitive to use. I have nothing but positive feedback in using TurboTax to process my tax returns over the years.
What's great about it: Simple, Straight Forward and Easy to Understand
What's not so great: None
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
Turbo tax remembers my depreciation schedules and automatically transfers them from the last year. This is invaluable for handling my real estate. It also automatically figures the AMT differences and the state differences in handling depreciation. It handles all aspects of my wife's business. The dreaded K-1s are handled with ease - you just type in the entries line by line and TurboTax figures out where to insert them into your return. It provides comparisons with previous years. It even told me how to handle a situation where my brokerage house failed to provide me with a 1099-R. I have never found a situation that TurboTax failed to handle.
What's great about it: TurboTax handles all my real estate, my wife's shop, and our stocks, not to mention the dreadful K-1s
