Great Job Again

Overall great product, we continue to use! A wee bit confusing for my wife, not so tech savvy, but she was able to complete almost by herself. Great product.
What's great about it: Simple Walk Thru and Comprehensive
What's not so great: Updates were optional and confused my wife

Mostly very good except...

Based on comments from other users, the glitch in showing tax free interest and K-1 income has been occurring for some time, but was still not corrected by mid April. Known problems should have been rectified to avoid confusing users.
Otherwise software worked well and IRS forms were clearly completed
What's great about it: Guides were clear, input was clear, download from broker worked
What's not so great: Tax free interest and income from estate K-1 would not show on summaries, even though it did on breakdowns and on 1040

Always get the wrong state
on April 10, 2014

I live in New Hampshire. You always assume my state tax should be New Hampshire. New Hampshire does not have a state income tax. I do need Massachusetts which is where my wife works. Please stop making the assumption that where I live is what I want or need and ASK. It would save us both a lot of time. Still a great product once I get all the pieces. I can do my taxes in a day.
What's great about it: able to get support and sales to fix it each time
What's not so great: It is a pain to have to go through the change each year

Pretty good program except

Problems: even though I go through every step of the return, when the error check runs, it always find errors and blanks that were not filled in. To make that worse, instead of going back to the Easy Question format, it opens the form and take you to the nebulous tax code questions to complete the problem. Many times I have no clue what is expected. This has been a problem for over 10 years that I have used the program.
Second: state turbo tax. If you have anything unusual or slightly complex, you need to go and download the forms from the state and fill out then enter info into turbotax. This i why I bought the program and paid extra for state portion. Turbo tax should have those forms and use the EASY WALK-THROUGH method to fill these portions out. If not, I might as well do my taxes on paper by hand. PLEASE FIX THIS.
What's great about it: Easy to use and understand, easy download and install of initial program and updates, great e-file options
What's not so great: I have used TurboTax for > 10 years and it always has two problems that never get fixed
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Really helpful with nonresident state return

I did my step-daughter's taxes and she worked as ski instructor in Utah during a small part of the tax year. It wasn't much income so I decided to try filling out Utah's online forms myself. But I quickly saw that it was going to take some digging to make sure Utah didn't lay claim to more income than it deserved. So I decided to buy the Utah module for TurboTax and, boy, I was done in less than 5 minutes. No stress!
What's great about it: Avoided struggling through online forms
What's not so great: It cost money to save me time

want more print options of receipts

while filing there is a purchase of the state filing option and confirmation of the tax payments. It would be good to have print options of these pages like we get for the audit defense. Tried to highlight, to copy and paste and the screen would not allow.

I had some none-Major Improvements that still had depreciation available that I was not able to enter, or the program didn't make it clear that where I could have.
What's great about it: I liked the easy guide with each step & the Pro analysis
What's not so great: couldn't enter past, none-Turbo, depreciations

Another Year with TurboTax

Overall, TurboTax is definitely the most practical way to file my tax return.
What's great about it: Turbotax simplifies the calculations, saves time by storing depreciation data, and being able to download directly from
What's not so great: There are instances when the flow of entering data is cumbersome.
