I'm done early this year

Every year before 2013 TurboTax smoothly transitioned from the federal return to the state return. This year, when you completed the review of the federal return it asked you to efile both the federal and state return, not even asking about completing or even downloading the state return. This appears to be a serious oversight and could get taxpayers in trouble with their state if they filed electronically and hadn't even downloaded the state return. This needs to be fixed ASAP.
What's great about it: Precise, consistent and very detailed
What's not so great: No transition from federal to state return this year

2013 Tax Tribulations

My Tax return would have been erroneous if I had not called in and talked to one of your customer representatives. He was professional, knowledgeable, courteous, and extremely helpful. Thankyou for providing that service!
You do not however get props for the aggravation I had to go through to find out how to get some one on the phone. That was a giant pain in the butt you all need to simplify. Fortunately Im not an idiot and finally figured it out.
Your customer Service rep gets a gold star for his assistance as there were errors on the forms because it did not save info for some reason or the other. and he politely walked me through every thing. Hopefully his patience and tutoring will assist me when doing my taxes with you again next year.
What's great about it: I finally go to talk to a person to get questions resolved.
What's not so great: the Site can be difficult to navigate when comparing a previous years return with current ones

some struggles

I converted to the business version after I had started my personal documents. I don't know if that was the problem or what, but it wasn't until I started again from the beginning that I actually felt I was getting the correct set of guiding questions. Had I given up after going through the process the first time, I would have owed Federal. But after a night's sleep and convinced that I could do better, I actually ended up with a nice little refund. But overall I was disappointed that I struggled so much the first time through. I think switching versions in mid-stream was the problem. I have been a Turbo Tax client for many years and have always been impressed with how easy and comprehensive the program is to use. Admittedly since this was the first year as a "consultant" this was a difficult year to complete. I am retired, only working part-time from home and needing to file in two states, so my situation is a little more unique than the standard filer. I also could not bring up last year's forms as I used a new computer this year--no matter how much I followed the directions---It was not the easiest process this year.--and for some reason, I felt last year had an easier way of finding answers to questions. I have been spoiled with how easy and simple it has been in previous years. However, I have been able to convince my brother to start using Turbo Tax--and that should speak to my overall satisfaction.
What's great about it: I liked having guide for business finances
What's not so great: I had a couple of problems that I had significant trouble finding the answers
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

My time, my pace

I've used TurboTax for a few years now and wouldn't tackle taxes without it. Lacking time to study and understand the tax codes for federal and state returns, I trust TT to understand the arcane details and do the correct calculations, and then review for accuracy, omissions and audit triggers.
What's great about it: Allows revisions, interruptions, without problems

I like being able to go over things on my own. But this year you did not have the feature that went over the return and suggested other areas for optimizing the return. Why not? It caught some stuff i missed last year! You also took off the feature that maximized the amount you could contribute to retirement and that showed if you had over contributed. That feature is VERY important. PLEASE PUT IT BACK!
What's great about it: brings last years info forward
What's not so great: did not have retirement maximization option this year

Mostly Happy

I enjoyed the step by step instructions. I was unhappy that I ended up buying two different versions, full price, of Turbo Tax this year. I did not realize that I could have upgraded my first version to the Home & office for a much smaller fee than buying a whole new edition. Even though I bought 2 versions, I was only give one state free of charge. I had to do both Ohio and Utah, so I ended up paying too much again. I am unhappy that I had to pay extra because I was not familiar enough with the way Turbo Tax worked. Ideally, I would like a refund of the double charging I experienced.
What's great about it: Step by step instructions
What's not so great: Extra fees
