Information on how to calculate Net Operating Loss was entirely insufficient. This could be remedied.
What's great about it: friendly prompts
What's not so great: will not calculate Net Operating Loss

Still Pretty Good...

For all of my investments, the tax forms are downloaded by Turbotax and handled without issues. This is the most complex part of my tax calculations.
For next year tax planning, a lot is left on the sideline. For example, I had to manually calculate my tax-exempt portion of social security and manually calculate my next year AGI in order to have accurate data for next year tax planning and quarterly payments. The quarterly tax planning needs to be beefed up significantly.
A lot of things seem to dropped off of the product - like some of the helpful videos and explanations.
The support and help for Roth and Traditional IRA planning was lacking for me.
What's great about it: Handles most of my investment capital gains, losses, tax exemptions, etc. well
What's not so great: Next year tax planning, IRA support, video help needs work.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

The Federal return was relatively painless. The State returns, especially when you need to do more than one state, were much more problematic. I could have used more explanation of the questions being asked, as was available for the Federal return.
What's great about it: Federal return worked well, support staff were great
What's not so great: State returns continue to be a problem-need more explanation for a lot of the questions

Prepared a Form 1040EZ and a NC resident form D-400 with no trouble. I think this year was the smoothest ever.
What's great about it: No problem
What's not so great: Not much

The only issue I have with Turbo Tax is that they charge to E file a state return.
What's great about it: The step by step walk thru is perfect
What's not so great: I cannot efile 1 state for free

Once again Turbo Tax has come through. The only knock is the way that TD Ameritrade and the program don't like SPDR Gold ETFs.
What's great about it: Simple and thorough interface
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved, I bought or sold investments

Used TurboTax several years for home and business. Always thorough yet simple to follow. Like the upload of data from previous year and side-by-side comparison of current year and previous year.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

A Review

I've used the program several years and basically like it and feel is does a good job. There are a few areas where it asks a question and then adds details in the choice of either the yes or no answer. In at least one area, the details of the answer choices turn it into an entirely different question. It also assumes that volunteer mileage will simply be the number of trips to one specific location. If the volunteer mileage is actually a variety of locations, there doesn't appear a way to enter that without listing every single location.
What's great about it: most area very complete and easy to understand
What's not so great: some areas contained assumptions and didn't allow choices
Pros: I bought or sold investments
