sir: began using for several years and find turbo to be cheaper and not to painful to use. accuracy is good and totally acceptable by the feds. tried others once and found it to be poor and did not file and went and bought turbo that year
and filed the returns. never left turbo since. honest. bob

My refund was quick

When inputting all my info it went smoothly except for the taxed portion of my deceased husband's retirement pension. The taxed portion showed under regular income and not in the taxed section of the pension area of the tax return.
What's great about it: Interview process was amoth
What's not so great: Handling of taxed portion of retirement income confusing

Anybody can do their own taxes

Any w-2 tax return can be done by anybody, even if you do not read that well. business taxes are easy also, except for the depreciation is a little harder to understand.
I have been using turbo tax since 1995. I use to go to IRS and get lots of paperwork and read all the new rules etc. now I just plug in numbers where the program tells me to and its done, very very easy.

What's great about it: personal or business anyone that can read can do their own taxes

Special situation improvement is needed

Great product and very easy to use. And very comprehensive.
But an improvement is needed. In my home I have one room dedicated for office space. I moved out of this home during the year and rented it out. I think all expenses including taxes paid, mortgage interest, insurance etc. needs to be distributed between rental period and personal living period.
I wish TurboTax recognizes my special scenario and automatically distributes the amounts correctly. But, I had do this manually, after realizing my mistake (per instructions, I entered full amount in all these forms). The existing comments are not completely clear.
What's great about it: Comprehensive and yet easy to use
What's not so great: Need improvement on special situations on home use

Great Job - Easy-Peasy

Menus, ability to bring last year's data, pre-checking and post-checking of data and forms is all good, easy and trustworthy. Makes me feel at least as confident as hauling shoe boxes to an accountant and the look on their face as I write them a check for at least twice as much. With TurboTax I get to make that smile to myself ...
What's great about it: Consistent interface - guided tour
What's not so great: Would like to adjust screen size

state just says sent supporting doc.s..???? guess I will send them all in....old instructions listed everything that was needed. New ...not as clear...for us dummies.
What's great about it: easy....love it
What's not so great: still not sure on what state items to send with state return.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

I have used TurboTax for five years, and find it generally dependable and accurate. I have also used it for efiling, which has gone without a hitch. I did have an error two years ago, which I thought should have been detected by the program, but was not. Took me the better part of a year to sort it out with the IRS. But, fundamentally, the mistake was mine.
What's great about it: Generally easy to follow.
What's not so great: A few steps were not well explained...particularly in reporting royalities.
