Program kept shutting down during preparation. I think there is a compatibility issue with windows 8.1. It never happened before.
What's great about it: Easy to understand
What's not so great: Program keeps shutting down

Retention of prior year data makes it easier to do the current year. Easy to do a return with multiple businesses.
What's great about it: Several Schedule C businesses done easily
What's not so great: Questions in "review" are not easily linked to the area of original input
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Great experience, can improve foreign reporting

As a first time user the experience was better than I expected. In last years I have work with a tax advisor, and I never understood the process the way I do now.
The software is very stable, and allow you to easily switch from wizard mode, to deep-dive, to Tax form entry style. Initially I used the wizards, but shortly after the two other modes have been proving very handy.
The shortcomings I experienced are in reporting of financial account in foreign banks. Asking me to choose between random 4-digit number forms is basically putting the burden on me to understand such reporting, which is not inlined with the spirit of the product. I hope next year will be simpler.
What's great about it: Stable software, easy, comprehensive
What's not so great: Foreign support limited, require Taxing expertise
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Fast easy tax preparation

Everything was great but 2 things I didn't like.
The voucher prints for estimated taxes do not fit the window envelopes supplied by the IRS.
I live in Texas with no state income tax but I was forced to download a state tax form and could not proceed until I selected a state I didn't need.
What's great about it: Easy to Navigate
What's not so great: Voucher Print and Forced State Tax

Walked me through everything

Overall this was a really great product, which let me dig through and figure out how to do my own taxes in no particular order, and finding my best options.
There were still several spots where I was unable to figure out what the IRS was asking for and never could get an explanation... including at the very end when I got a flag saying they could not e-file until I corrected a term. But at that point the mystery resolved itself and I was still able to file.
Most similar circumstances had a button which took me to a concise explanation of what was being asked, and then links to the IRS website with even more details. Extremely helpful for a novice.
What's great about it: Easily let me go back and forth, adding new stuff as I found it
What's not so great: Still had some incomprehensible jargon

and filed the returns. never left turbo since. honest. bob
What's great about it: quick & painless
What's not so great: boring

When inputting all my info it went smoothly except for the taxed portion of my deceased husband's retirement pension. The taxed portion showed under regular income and not in the taxed section of the pension area of the tax return.
What's great about it: Interview process was amoth
What's not so great: Handling of taxed portion of retirement income confusing

Anybody can do their own taxes

Any w-2 tax return can be done by anybody, even if you do not read that well. business taxes are easy also, except for the depreciation is a little harder to understand.
I have been using turbo tax since 1995. I use to go to IRS and get lots of paperwork and read all the new rules etc. now I just plug in numbers where the program tells me to and its done, very very easy.
What's great about it: personal or business anyone that can read can do their own taxes
What's not so great: the depreciation sometimes throws me
