I am not a computer person. I know enough to get into trouble. But even I was able to get thru this years turbo tax without too much trouble. Must of my trouble was due to the fact that my old computer died, the bad kind of died where you lose everything. Old tax returns gone. But I was able to recover without them by just putting in info from a hard copy. Not quick but it got the job done. Remember to back up everything you care not to lose.
What's great about it: Very easy to follow
What's not so great: Hard to get off some pages, until i found the upper right hand corner which said delete page.
TT forced me to used the home & business edition since we had rent income from a family farm. In the past, I have been able to use the deluxe edition, which went smoothly. This year, with the H&B TT, I had several problems with the farm income and expense. I twice had to call the help line. The second time, I was directed to download the s/w on my computer, and was able to make it work correctly.
What's not so great: Forced me to use Business edition
Turbo Tax just keeps getting better over the years. I will double check how accurate it is doing by manually doing some of the worksheets and have never been disappointed with Turbo Tax. I love being able to see the best way to file by trying different things that you just could not get an accountant to do for you. I have been using Turbo Tax since it was run by Chip Soft in the old DOS format and will continue to use it for the foreseeable future. Love it.
What's great about it: Easy and complete.
What's not so great: Business edition should come with Premier but dosent
Using Turbotax is easy, even for tech-adverse people like myself. I appreciate the prompts provided when entering information. The system makes filing interest and dividend income easy and provides me assurance that it is done correctly - something that doing my taxes on my own did not do.
What's great about it: Leads tax filer through the filing process easily. Like the intermittent appearance of the tax expert.
I liked the idea of the step by step interviews. However, there were some questions that I didn't understand and wasn't sure of the information on the help screen. I didn't understand how the information was routed to the return, but it didn't take as long to complete that I expected.
I've used turbo tax for years. Basically easy for the average Joe. I even use the Home & Business. Great for stock trading. However, when you have to report on multi state returns. Turbo should a a column for State Impact on the Federal form and let prepare up front designated the state return the dollars should be added to.
What's great about it: Have used turbo tax for years --- great for the average joe
What's not so great: Multi-states returns are a little confusing.
