Turbo Tax 2013 Review
on March 17, 2014

Began with Turbo tax when they took over the Parsons tax program and have been with the program from year 1.
Great program and support for my personal and corporate taxes.
What's great about it: Simple and thorough program
What's not so great: Have to go through all section on simple w-2 only return
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Every question is yes or no. Very easy to understand. Each topic explains what you can or can't claim.
What's great about it: It is sooo easy to do it yourself.

Minor failing if you get foreign income

I get Canadian NR4 forms (1099 equivalent). Turbotax allows me to prepare a 4852 substitute for W-2 or 1099 but won't accept the Canadian employer's or payer's identification number and can't comprehend the Canadian zip code equivalent.

Much Better New and Improved!!

Overall this program appears to be more thorough than in the past years especially regarding the business section.
I hope you keep improving the software.
What's great about it: I liked the double checking for errors they were easier to fix.
What's not so great: Updating should happen first to keep from going back and redoing sections

The error report calls areas not a problem. If an entry is 0, it doesn't matter if it is described or not.
The continue on the files does not take you to the exact page you previously quit on-only to the general section.
The program does not allow you to do 'what ifs'. Sometimes I would like to know the impact of certain entries on a trial basis.
What's great about it: through
What's not so great: error report, what ifs

As I began to use Turbo Tax I found it answered all of my questions as I went along. It was as if it was thinking for me. I am a 47 year old full time student who works three jobs, one of which offers me insurance and 401K. I had circumstances which posed several different scenarios, and Turbo Tax figured it out for me, and found me the most money and the best credits that would work for me at this time. I found security in knowing that my return was accurate and within proper guidelines. I received more money back than I would have if I had done it myself, and I definitely saved money by avoiding an accounting firm. It's almost fun to do my taxes and it's interesting to see where I can save money. It's been three years and I'll continue to use Turbo Tax because it's easy and very rewarding.
What's great about it: Simple to use yet handles the complicated!
What's not so great: None really that I can think of..

It wasn't until I filed that I realized that Form 8453 would show up. I went and completed this by hand, thinking I wasn't going to get this from TurboTax. This should have been made clear while filling out the return that Form 8453 would show up when during the online filing process. Also, it's hard to go back to the forms after the return is completed. I would like to go back to any input area based on what 's shown on the final return.
What's great about it: No postage or trip to post office
