MISSING RMD REQUEST
on March 15, 2014
Posted by: CDCRW
My birthdate was entered correctly as 11/29/1939 however, TurboTax "reminded me" that I am "approaching" retirement age and then should make my RMD - well I am already 74 years old and have used TurboTax for years in the past. Please correct this calculation for your next issue or provide an update. Thank you
What's great about it: Very good response / solution to my questions on the phone
What's not so great: Turbo\Tax does not compute my age correctly
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
I've used T Tax for almost 20 years, maybe more hum,. anyway I wouldn't use anything else. I've helped people that were using other programs. I understand why they were having problems, it was the program not them. They are now true believers in Turbo Tax.
What's great about it: Easy and accurate.
What's not so great: Didn't notify me of efile error soon enough. Still fixed without much trouble by backing up and removing a form.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
Pleased with everything except the fact when I was getting started 2013 turbo tax would not recognize my 2012 return even though it was done with turbo tax on-line and saved on my laptop as a PDF. Even when I selected browse and manually selected the 2012 file, turbo tax kept stating that it didn't recognize it, which was very frustrating way to start! Other than that, love the program.
I have used TurboTax Individual for 22 years and this is my first year using TurboTax Business. I started my own business this year and did not want to use an Accountant to do my taxes. I was able to do my business taxes without an accountant.
Since it was my first time with TurboTax Business, it took longer than expected. This was mainly due to me not understanding what all the options were for putting money away for retirement for a small business. TurboTax Business had all of the retirement options to select in the software; however, I should have planned earlier as to what option was best for me.
Overall, I was very pleased with TurboTax and will use TurboTax Business next year.
What's great about it: Organizes business revenue and expenses in meaningful way. Also, the software allows me to save diferent tax scenarios.
What's not so great: Retirement options - 401k, SEP, Pension, etc... too complex to know best option.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
While this was always my "go to" company for doing taxes, this year was absolutely different.
I was completely unable to load this on my Windows XP machine, which I have used for years.
I was forced to put in on my other computer machine using Windows 7. With 4 of us using that machine, two kids, we have an administrator section. When I tried to work with Turbo Tax in "my" section of the computer, it would not allow downloads so the initial disc's data could be updated, (I had to manually update the info), and it would not allow me to add the free state program, either. So finally I ended up putting the data I had worked on, in my section of the computer, onto a disc, and transfer it to the Administrators file. I ended up with a disc of data, and was able to safe a PDF file on my computer for next year.
I am sure I will have problems next year, unless you do a better job of your programming, or provide instructions on using different Windows systems.
I have never been so frustrated in my entire life, and I have been using computers for work and at home since computers were first introduced in the 1980's!!
My love of your TT program has definitely dwindled extremely! My referrals of your TT program have also dwindled. I am sure I will need to purchase another computer for the family, as I do not like kids on a computer that holds my taxes and family financial data.
I am livid with your company's TT Home and Business program this year. I sincerely hope that next year is better or I will just go to an accountant. Not having anything other than computer access to help with these many problems this year, has also been consummately frustrating! I wasted 5 days and evenings working on getting your program to work.
I am really angry!!!!
What's great about it: Was the same company I had used in the past, and been pleased with, in the past.
What's not so great: Horrible to work with in Windows 7: wouldn't allow downloads, updates, getting the state programs, etc.
