Step by Step Easy

Awesome tax software. I will use it again and again
What's great about it: Really user friendly
What's not so great: error check shows your errors in form view and isn't specific to where you erred on the step by step area.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Nearly perfect tax preparation software

As with prior years, the program smoothly handled complex data entry and calculations, saving much time. The only inconvenience was inability to e-file the Federal return on March 15, 2014, due to a "required update". However, the program needed no further updates at that time.
What's great about it: Clear step-by-step instructions
What's not so great: Would not allow e-filing due to "required update" that didn't exist

You did a great job. Made it easy for a fairly complicated return. A little brain dead, but nothing bad on your side.
What's great about it: Personal taxes behind us
What's not so great: Didn't withhold enough for State

STATE TAX INTEGRATION IS WEAK

TURBO TAX DOES A NICE JOB WITH FEDERAL TAXES. I'VE BEEN USING IT FOR YEARS. LAST YEAR I CHANGED JOBS SO THAT I RESIDE IN ONE STATE AND WORK IN ANOTHER. TURBO TAX SAID I DID NOT NEED TO FILE IN THE OTHER STATE. I WOULD HAVE MISSED A $300 REFUND :o !
What's great about it: FEDERAL TAXES
What's not so great: STATE TAX INTEGRATION

I love the roller coaster of watching the calculations swing in my favor!
What's great about it: Just answer the questions...so uncomplicated!
What's not so great: When compared to sitting with an accountant, reviewing paperwork and answering questions for hours...there are no cons!

2013 tax

several times TT did not carry forward info from previous years.
When I went to e-file it would not let me do it for two or three times- it kept saying i needed to down load current info. yet my TT was 100% up to date according to TT when I looked for updates.

In two cases TT said that i needed to wait for new fed and state forms-- TT will email me when available--- in actual fact what was missing was one piece of info i had left off the form- my mistake, but TT made me think i had to wait for something.
A good feature to add would be a …" what if" capability. this would let me get a rough idea of what taxes would be like if i did something different- next year- e.g. moving IRA to Roth IRA, selling securities--etc It would not be 100% accurate but it could give a pretty good guess at what some of impacts might be. and it could be done without messing up my current year tax info. Kind of like saving a version without impacting the actual info.

I've only used turbo tax. I dont know how it compares to others.
Why bother with a tax preparer. They cant't be any better than this.
