Helped with foster kids

We took in foster kids in 2013. TurboTax walked me through the pros and cons of taking them as dependents or claiming the support as charitable contributions.
Now, if I could just get TurboTax to insert blank pages in the pdf where a form was an odd number of pages long, I could print the taxes all at once rather than having to break the print job into multiple parts.
What's great about it: No matter how much my tax situation changes, TurboTax is there to help me.
What's not so great: I wish I could print out two sided returns with blank pages inserted where the form was an odd number of pages inserted.

State return issues
on April 13, 2014

The transfer between state and federal was not good. State kept telling me I had untitled forms transferred from Federal but they did not exist in the Federal forms anywhere. Also would not let me bypass the forms to complete the return and e-file. Ended up having to "trick" the program and then print my state return to file.
What's great about it: easy to use
What's not so great: conflicts between federal and state forms. Information does not transfer properly
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved

Most confusing ever
on April 13, 2014

The few sections that were "new situations" for me to enter data, were not clearly instructed. I used the help questions numerous times and rarely got the answer I needed. Found more help on IRS website than in TurboTax.
What's great about it: I like the questions asked, to help avoid missiing key deductions.
What's not so great: Instructions not clear in many sections, FAQs not helpful.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved

I got through it all in pretty good shape this year. I made one mistake missing a period entering interest, multiplying the entry by 100. My wife caught it in her review. Nothing TurboTax could have done about it.
What's great about it: Mostly better than in the past.
What's not so great: Not as much imported information [interest, etc] as in the past. Certainly not much around here.

Excellent, except for Schedule K
on April 13, 2014

The weak point in TTax13 Home & Small Business is the handling of Schedule K. There is WAY too much head scratching and ambiguity with this schedule. This is the chronic weakness of all TTax to date.
I run TTax in a virtual machine. If you change anything about the VM (cpu sockets, memory size) after TTax installation, TTax completely crashes in a hostile and unfriendly manner. Uninstall/Reinstall fails. You have to entirely recreate the VM from scratch, and do a fresh install of TTax and its updates. Very annoying.
TTax is resource hungry. VM users should give it 2gb of RAM, and two processor cores right from the start. It performs just fine with XP-Pro SP3.
What's great about it: Smoother navigation
What's not so great: Schedule K handling; caveats when run in a virtual machine
Pros: I bought or sold investments
