Turbo tax made fining taxes as easy as possible with IRS rules and regulations.

Married and Living in Two Separate States

Every year Turbo Tax gets better. I have been a user for over (10) years. The online help was instrumental for filing my taxes correctly. My tax situation was complicated by my spouse living in a separate state for the year.
With the work around we were able to file our returns and save from overpaying. Thanks Turbo Tax! While our situation is unique -- I believe this is becoming more common. Hopefully, this can be added to Turbo Tax in the future.
What's great about it: The website gave me the necessary information to do this correctly.
What's not so great: I wish this condition was part of Turbo Tax rather than using a work around.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved

Great Job

This s the second year I've used TurboTax to complete my taxes. I didn't think I would be able to use it this year because we had a move and other business complications and didn't think that the software could process something that complicated.
I was wrong. Not only did it walk me through every detailed step but it made sure I didn't add things that I thought were allowable but are not and it pointed me to about $1000 of deductions I didn't think about!
Great software, great experience (yes, I said this about doing my taxes) and awesome investment of my money.
What's great about it: Easy and nforative
What's not so great: Maybe make the explinations larger so you can read them better
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved

More confusing than usual!

I've been using Turbo Tax for over 10 years and this year I found some of the guidance confusing. Questions for entering Business income and deductions were not clear. Asking 2 part questions: Did you have farm income that was not taxed? Should have option: Did you have farm income? I got into a farm, which I do not have, and couldn't get out! Needed to go to forms and delete farm forms.
Also when entering Business Office expenses was told that my office did not qualify, with no clear reason. Had to agree and then circle around to enter info. Very confusing.
Hope next year is better.
What's great about it: As easy as ever, walking you through every option.
What's not so great: Some questions were confusing, not enough options

Fed, NJ, PA returns good, OK terrible
on April 13, 2014

The FED, NJ, and PA tax returns were good. Easy to use and handled MLPs very well. OK was terrible. The stock sales needed to be excluded from OK because it was out of state (I'm a NJ resident). PA we could simply check a box to exclude the capital gains and losses. OK, you needed to put in some fed transaction number, location of assets in OK (which if it was stocks you were selling you didn't have), acquisition date. If you didn't have the information, you couldn't go past that point.
What's great about it: Fed, NJ and PA returns were good and easy to use
What's not so great: OK returns were terrible
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Car registration information was duplicated
on April 13, 2014

I used my car for the service provided for K-1 income, so I typed in the car registration fee into the filed in a page after K-1 information. However, I needed to input similar information (car registration fee) again. (I think it was in general deduction area)
So, if I am wrong, I am sorry. If not, it seems you can input car registration fee twice for same car at K-1 area and that area. Since I noticed about it, and I though it was wrong, i erased a fee in K-1 area to avoid double count.
Since I am not specialist, if I can report them all, so sorry for bothering you. If I am right, then it is great if the software can detect such over wrapped (possible) category/item.
I also noticed some tax forms are automatically generated when I tried something new even if I clear my input and/or erase input. (after I notice that I don't need them.) Once it generated, it didn't go away. So, I just start-over all of the return from the very beginning.
Sincerely,
Makoto
What's great about it: Turbo Tax is wonderful software and very helpful as usual
What's not so great: Car registration information was duplicated in K-1 area and general deduction are or so

Turbotax falls short
on April 13, 2014

Greaty software, but if you can't E-file at the end, that's a problem. Never had this problem in years past. Tried to do it through and iMac, but it failed, even after ensuring the latest version was downloaded.
What's great about it: Easy to use, as always; a real time saver
What's not so great: Couldn't E-file after trying several times; had to print and mail!
Pros: I bought or sold investments
