Car registration information was duplicated
on April 13, 2014

I used my car for the service provided for K-1 income, so I typed in the car registration fee into the filed in a page after K-1 information. However, I needed to input similar information (car registration fee) again. (I think it was in general deduction area) So, if I am wrong, I am sorry. If not, it seems you can input car registration fee twice for same car at K-1 area and that area. Since I noticed about it, and I though it was wrong, i erased a fee in K-1 area to avoid double count. Since I am not specialist, if I can report them all, so sorry for bothering you. If I am right, then it is great if the software can detect such over wrapped (possible) category/item.
I also noticed some tax forms are automatically generated when I tried something new even if I clear my input and/or erase input. (after I notice that I don't need them.) Once it generated, it didn't go away. So, I just start-over all of the return from the very beginning.
Sincerely,
Makoto
What's great about it: Turbo Tax is wonderful software and very helpful as usual
What's not so great: Car registration information was duplicated in K-1 area and general deduction are or so

Turbotax falls short

Greaty software, but if you can't E-file at the end, that's a problem. Never had this problem in years past. Tried to do it through and iMac, but it failed, even after ensuring the latest version was downloaded.
What's great about it: Easy to use, as always; a real time saver
What's not so great: Couldn't E-file after trying several times; had to print and mail!
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Why carryover questions?
on April 13, 2014

Given that I've used TT for years, why the Fed and State questions about carryovers--TT should know.
The questions don't make reference such as "We've looked over your past returns and have incorporated any carryovers. Were there others you have not previously recorded?"

Can't efile with a state underpayment penalty
on April 13, 2014

I completed my return and paid to efile the state. Everything looked great until I clicked transmit returns, at which point TT discovered that I had an underpayment penalty on my MN return. I paid my estimates late and had a penalty even though i ended up getting a MN refund. I expected all of that, but what I didn't expect was that TT can't efile when the M15 form is filled out (state equivalent of the 2210). This is a TurboTax problem, not a MN issue--I've used number of other programs and have never had this issue (I often forget my estimates). Please fix this! I hate printing/mailing 75 pages unnecessarily!
What's not so great: You can't efile MN if you have an underpayment penalty--you have to paper file.

Good Experience

I have been using TurboTax for years... since back in the DOS days (pre-Windows OS, for you youngsters). For a while, TurboTax got progressively more "helpful" to the point I was ready to change to other software. That said, I'm glad I stuck it out (partially to avoid having to re-enter stuff from last year) because the program has improved a great deal over the past couple of years. Made my tax prep a snap.
Now if I could just have the program gather all the input information for me...
What's great about it: The ability to skip around and work in the order I wanted to.
What's not so great: I honestly can't think of any.

I can spend hours reading instructions for tax forms and still not understand what deduction goes on what line.turbotax led me right through and made it easier for me to file my city tax forms. my lack of computer skills showed through when I could not download the state, but I got through it.well worth the money I spent.
What's great about it: walked me right through
What's not so great: would not download state
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Don't ask questions, there are no answers. State Forms not available until 2 days before deadline to file together. Some topics not even covered, asked or mentioned in FAQs
What's great about it: Taxes can be done at home
What's not so great: Clunky interface with very little flexibility. Forms are never ready until late.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
