state form more confusing this year
on April 13, 2014

I needed definitions for some things on the state software but the software told me the search function does not work on state forms. Other than that I was very pleased with the software.
What's great about it: Federal software was easy to use and follow.
What's not so great: I had issues with definitions in one or more areas of the state software.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

3 Times A Charm

It took me 3 times to get everything straight and used 2012 as reference. I've been a Turbo Tax fan for over 10 years. I'll try one more year before looking elsewhere
What's great about it: Easy to Navigate
What's not so great: 1.Did not record 24 answers the 1st time entered 2. Flow was not the same as 2012

Complete and Easy

Turbo Tax is very systematic and will grow with you! I started out with easy filings and now am a business partner receiving K-1's. Turbo Tax can handle it all and is a great tool for making sure every inch of your advantages are safely covered. I say safely because there are CPA's who will push the rules to the max. I sleep better knowing that the largest virtual CPA in the world is looking out for me.
Suggested Improvements:
Beef up K-1 Guaranteed Payments for LLC's
The IRS has now said that employees who own more than 2% of the company must be paid via guaranteed payments and can no longer be paid as W-2 employees. TT will need to deepen that part of the K-1 explanation for us.
1099-B's
Please have Covered and Noncovered explained better. If is a fairly straightforward explanation. Smaller brokerages are terrible with how they send these out and many have little of the details. Once I found out the definition of Covered and Noncovered, it was fairly simple to figure out which boxes to choose.
Charitable Contributions
If TT needs an address for a charitable organization due to gift type/class, catch it when I am entering the gift for that organization and have the paper in front of me - not at the end when I have to dig back through my pile to find the one TT needs.
What's great about it: Handled complexities of multiple income streams well, forces you to dig through deductions
What's not so great: Needs beefed up K-1 Guaranteed Payment guidance; Charitable contribution workflow needs streamlining

If your primary income is only from a K-1 and you have a home office expense to deduct TurboTax is no help. They send you to an IRS form to calculate your deduction.
What's great about it: Walks you through most income and expense categories
What's not so great: No help for home office expense with K-1 income

Easy, Superfast And Reliable Tax Software
on April 13, 2014

I am very much satisfied with turbotax, but at some instances i feel that i am missing some part of my tax filing. For Ex: small deductions that any CPA does and tries to get more refunds. If i select a standard deduction, i might miss some part of these deductions. Also if i have any legal terms if i am not understanding, a video clip to link to that question or step will definitely helpful.
What's great about it: Step by Step easy understandable questions and steps
What's not so great: Not linked to videos explaining individual steps if there are any info required
Pros: I had a baby, I bought or sold investments

They have taken the simple things and made them more difficult to acheive the end. ie purchase and printing.
What's great about it: Had info from previous years.
What's not so great: getting way to complicated even just ordering the purchase programs
