Have used for several years. Always beats paying someone to do them and the interactive help reassures you that you are not missing something or doing something wrong.
What's great about it: Easy to use
What's not so great: None noted
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
I have used Turbo Tax for years and I have been so pleased that the rest of my family uses it as well; however, this year the software was a real disappointment.
I input a new charity donation and I was not asked to provide an address for the charity; however, in the "check for errors," it came up with 4 errors all related to the charity. If I had simply been asked for the charity's address when I entered the donation as has been done in past years, there would have been no errors.
The biggest problem came with Form 8824 and the trade in of my vehicle for another vehicle (because I do a small amount of work for a company for which I am paid on a Form 1099-MISC I am considered a "small business owner" ). When check errors was run, it came up with questions on this form, did not provide any links for Learn More and I had no idea what Turbo Tax was talking about. I tried looking for help to no avail, tried "asking the community" with no results and used the online help service, again with no results. Very, very disappointed with the software this year and it's ability to provide meaningful, easy to understand explanations and direction when needed. I have never before had such a difficult experience with Turbo Tax.
What's great about it: Produced lots of paper
What's not so great: Questions didn't gather enough information
Started using TurboTax in 2005. With a home based business in the mix I was spending 2-3 days doing taxes every year before 2005. Once I started with TurboTax, preparation time dropped to less than half a day! It is worth every cent spent on the software for the Home and Business Edition.
What's great about it: TurboTax reduced prepartion from 2-3 days to half a day.
I've used TurboTax before for filing personal taxes and always liked it's easy-to-use nature. But I got laid-off at the beginning of '13 and started doing consulting/freelance. I wasn't sure if I would be able to handle doing the taxes, even with the TurboTax Home & Business version... I'm not too bright about this stuff. But TurboTax walked me through each step of the way, even down to figuring out the amount of space is in my home office. Very cool. Now if they only would only include the state e-file... $20 seems rather high to e-file something.
What's great about it: Easy, step-by-step walkthrough
What's not so great: State e-file is extra
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
