Turbo Tax 2013

There were two instances of Turbo Tax identifying data fields that needed to be filled in which were non-applicable. This made e-filing a bit more of a chore than it needed to be. Had to go back and either delete a form which never should have been there in the first place or edit a data field that didn't apply. Given the complexity of filing tax returns, these were perceived as minor problems. Overall I would recommend Turbo Tax.
What's great about it: User friendly interface
What's not so great: Erroneous errors detected before filing

First year as a small business
on April 14, 2014

Filing our small business taxes this year was not nearly as painless as I expected from Turbotax. It was confusing to have to split out expenses manually and then reconcile the totals at the end. Turbotax should have had something to help us walk through it instead of us having to pull out a calculator and divide everything in half... It was also a little unexpected to be told to put different descriptions in for our business depending on whose return we were working on. Overall, not the experience I'd expect.
What's great about it: Same easy-to-use format as always
What's not so great: LLC expense allocations were painful
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

I buy the cd version, because I want to store my data on my system not in cypher space.
What's great about it: fairly easy to move around to diferent sections
What's not so great: State intrest transfer is still bad from last year (it blank lines at top)
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Turbo Tax

I wasnt really happy with Turbo Tax this year. I had numerous questions and had a problem with the first document I created. I called support and got a representative that was not at all helpful. I had to call back two more times before I got a representative that was extremely helpful, even though she could not resolve the issue.
What's great about it: That I could file online
What's not so great: I had to create a second copy of the 2013 return. Unable to transfer information from first copy to the second copy.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

very misleading with free state. at the end you are told to pay to e-file. used turbo tax in the past and did not pay for 1 state e-file. any additional I paid for. no free e-file this year.
What's great about it: easy to use

good for an unavoidable job

The overall program worked great. The down side was that it did not recognize my return from last year even though it was done with the same product version (home and business) and I put it in the same folders into which I saved copies of the new return. This was disappointing as it led to a considerable amount of repetitive entry work for me. I can only guess that I needed to have it in the standard place ( i.e. username/MyDocuments/turbotax...). I like to keep my tax documents on a removable drive so that they are not being carried around with my computer so they are in a non-standard place. In any case I hope that next year the program does not fail to collect the information from this year's filing and hopefully see the earlier years as well.
What's great about it: Excellent help messages well presented without breaking the stream
What's not so great: Did not collect my last year's return although it was done with the same program and names

Be up front with the cost. It should be less than taking my information to CPA and having them done for me since I'm doing the labor myself and paying for the software. Be sure to clarify terms each year in the investment portions and explain what is being asked for in the review. It doesn't allow me to look at details to see what the question and answers may have been covered in the review or checking for errors.
What's great about it: It was very easy and guided me through the steps I needed.
What's not so great: their always seems to be a hidden fee. in my case the state e-file fee. So I thought I was saving money, but didn't.
