Harder than Prior Years
on April 14, 2014

I have used TurboTax for over fifteen years. This version is the most difficult to use. I found setting up deprecation difficult to use compared to prior years. Also, I don't like the way it prints. In fact, it wouldn't print at all to my printer.
What's great about it: Turbotax transfers data from one year to next
What's not so great: Hard to print....difficulty with depreciation

Need to be able to enter Charities' addresses at the same time as contribution, pretty sure that was how it was last year.
What's great about it: Most everything
What's not so great: Charity address input

You keep making it harder

This software is getting harder to use. I had to search for SEP retirement contributions. I went through the whole long Easy Step and never came across it. It wanted to know how much of my pension payments were RMD. How would I know? I don't think that applies to regular payments from a pension plan. I was never asked that in any previous years. we bought a new car and traded in the old one this tax year. in previous years Turbo-tax had all the old car info it needed. Not this year. I had to go look up old tax returns and the depreciation tables to give it numbers. I was frustrated to say the least.
What's great about it: It's familiar. I can import my previous returns. The automatic downloads for some companys works
What's not so great: Only Home and business has Schedule C! Way more than I need for one man shop.

Steadfast as always

I have been using computer-assisted tax preparation since 1989. Even with my 50+forms, TurboTax makes it relatively easy to prepare and file. I enter spreadsheet data manually by choice, although I track most of it with Quicken. I filed an amended return (for 2012) earlier this year; it could have been a little clearer how to do so with TurboTax-- I wasted some time redoing parts. But it did work out in the end.
What's great about it: Allows both manual and guided entries
What's not so great: Sometimes difficult to flip between forms
Pros: I moved

Excellent as always - but:

I've been using Turbo Tax for years, and the Home & Business version since I've had my own business (8 years). This was the first time it didn;t automatically lead me through Schedule C and the related worksheets and forms. Once I realized that the bulk of my deductions were missing and went directly to Schedule C in "Forms", I was able to complete all of the necessary forms using last year's forms for reference. Other than this one glaring omission, the program was excellent as ususal.
What's great about it: The way it leads you through your return
What's not so great: Didn;t automatically lead me through Schedule C

As always,. Turbotax is easy to use. There are some small glitches. It kept returning to the Schedule D form, saying that it was not et available, though it seems to have been processed and submitted correctly.
What's great about it: easy to navigate
What's not so great: did not pick up spouse's info from previous year's individual return, even though it was prepared on the same computer
Pros: I bought or sold investments
