TurbotaxHome/Bus 2013review

1. TT for Home and Bus 2013 could not locate my 2012 TT file on my computer even after several tries. Its right there with an icon on the home page along with three previous years of TT. What a pain.
2. Come up with a better print sequence at the end. It doesnt print from the print buttons. I had to force it to print by going to the top file/edit/etc tool bar at the top of the screen. And then I am fighting with it to not print out some pages in some adobe klingon type language that just wastes my paper and ink. Can you get this more foolproof. And its doing it again now as I am printing it out. All forms after Schedule SE come out Klingon (9394,8829,3124
3.Sometimes when you go back into a section to review it again before finalizing the return, it deletes prior data and you have to enter it again instead of just reviewing what you put in. Can you secure the data entered in a better way so it wont do that unless the user changes it. In reviewing 2012., I noticed it did that in the other expenses section of schedule C and I did not notice it until I was comparing 2012 to 2013.
I lost two valuable deductions that year. that I had input descriptions of but ended up with zero dollars input. TT had removed the dollar deductions and left the descriptions.
What's great about it: very thorough
What's not so great: some glitches

Almost flawless

This is the second year I have used turbo-tax. It is very well constructed but there remains a few areas that confuse me such as the proper way to address HSA's. Overall they do a n ice job of explaining in language the non tax professional can understand. I would highly recommend to anyone who doesn't want to pay the tax preparers hundreds of dollars just to copy the information you organized for them.
What's great about it: Very well organized.
What's not so great: Still a few confusing areas

Been using TurboTax for last five years. Have been completely happy with the process and the results every time. Just wonder why the government can't make it this easy for everyone...!
What's great about it: Quick and brings up things you might have forgotten.
What's not so great: none

Still prefer Turbotax

I have used TurboTax almost since its inception. As an attorney who worked for the US DOJ Tax Division, I find it a very simple and generally easy to understand tax program. It continues to get better.
However, the section on investments and retirement income reporting is still very confusing. It is better than it was, but still needs work. I can't imagine any of my clients dealing with some of the investment reporting issues necessary for the return (particularly 1099-B#, e.g. covered vs. non-covered securities.
Other details noticed:
- Prior year refund applied to current tax year did not automatically show up as part of 1st quarter ES payment #at least put that above the quarterly Estimated Tax payments so you know it is accounted for#. It is unclear that you are asking for any ADDITIONAL payments.
-Before select standard deduction, let person know what the total #and breakdown) is without having to go look for it. When you are use to never taking the standard deduction, and suddenly it is selected for you, most want to know why.
What's great about it: Interview Process getting better
What's not so great: Investment and retirment section
