Turbo Tax needs to expand its windows to allow more data for multiple entries among states and foreign country types of entries.
Also, Turbo Tax should be able to automatically impute figures from data already entered. If I enter the total amount of a field, and then enter a subset of that universe, Turbo Tax should be able to automatically compute the balance if I only have one more subset to enter.
What's great about it: I liked the hand directing of what tax topics to address.
What's not so great: I don't like that the K-1 entry limit to one foreign country. Should allow more than one country.
This filing was the easiest I have had in all the years I have used TurboTax. It was thorough without being boring or too technical. Thanks for the good work.
What's great about it: It was much easier than past returns.
In a complex software as TurboTax, customer service is what all matters when a product is evaluated. Turbo Tax Customer Representative Trafina was superb and very patient in dealing with my needs. She analysed step by step and upgraded me to the appropriate version without any cost and made sure that I have filed electronically with success.
What's great about it: Methodical step by step easy to understand
What's not so great: Software didn't tell me that version I am using needs to be updated if I am a landlord
If you have nothing unusual about your return, things go very smoothly and quickly. Every year it seems like I have a small gotcha. This year it was recharacterizing a Roth to a Traditional (non-deductible) IRA. Their helpful questions can handle the reverse recharacterization, but do not have any assistance for this direction. Considering that they know I exceeded the income limit for a Roth, it seems like this should be something that they help you through rather than making you guess at the questions and manually review the form 8606 to make sure everything got filed properly.
What's great about it: Makes normal situations very simple
What's not so great: Makes unusual circumstances rather difficult
I would like to see a button that says "File state taxes by mail" once I click that I do not wish to e-file them. I had to search through the program and just happened to stumble upon the print file and state return was listed as an option. It was very frustrating because I was at the "home free" portion of the taxes ans then felt like I'd never find that button. Otherwise, I love turbo tax!! I've used the H&R Block program in the past, and I did not like it as much as I do turbo tax.
What's great about it: Turbo tax easily guides me through the tax process, even in difficult tax situations.
What's not so great: Once I selected not to e-file my state returns, there was no button to click on that says file my states now by mail.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
It took so much longer than in past years as I had to reenter all my information. When I got a new computer, the Turbo Tax information did not transfer. Bummer!!
