A. Sometimes, TurboTax asks me stupid questions such as: 1. "Do you want to fill out your state taxes now?" even though it knows I live in a state that has no state taxes. 2. "What was on Line xxx of your previous year's tax return" even though it knows exactly what it put on Line xxx of my previous year's return. B. If I find additional info, or a mistake I made earlier, and I need to go back to a particular section to update it, I have a hard time finding that section and then must go through too many screens to get to the exact screen I need to fix. C. When it goes thru its error-checking process at the end, it finds too much missing information that it should have filled out the first time we went through that section. D. It should warn me in advance if it looks like we're going to be wasting our time checking out whether or not certain potential deductions are going to be of any use to me. For example, I wasted hours calculating and inputting my kid's $20,000 in college tuition payments, my $2,000 in charity contributions, and my $500 in medical bills only to have Turbotax tell me effectively "You made way too much money for those deductions to come into play.". It should have warned me we'd probably be wasting our time in advance. E. My nickname is Bob. Why does this form not accept that? If it's not going to accept my nickname, why doesn't it tell me in advance that it wants a "unique User ID", not a nickname, and provide details of the requirements of that "User ID"?
What's great about it: Much easier than doing my taxes manually
It was not intuitive on how to override some withholding payment dates. For example, a payment was due on 9/15 but I had a material withholding occur on 9/24 which exceeded the 9/15 required payment. In order to avoid a large penalty, I had to figure out how to get the 9/24 payment recorded in the worksheet/form. I googled how to override in turbo tax to learn that you needed to right click on the cell.
What's great about it: Easy to use and follow....I used Turbo Tac for several years and will always do so.
What's not so great: I had a question, called your customer service aand never got a call back. I eventually figured out my question below.
the only issue I had, was on the Colorado State tax form. the form DR 0617 on the software, was not the latest form. Required me to override in a few areas, and attach the updated form to the back of my tax forms. Thus was unable to e file today.
What's great about it: easy to use, quick, accurate
What's not so great: State (CO) tax software not up to date on Innovative motor vehicle credit
I feel you need to do some work on Turbo Tax. It did not ask all of the right questions but I overcame that. I wanted ot apply 100% of my refund to 2014 taxes. it di dnot do this. I had to go to 1040 form to make necessary changes.
What's great about it: Worked through tax prep. process
What's not so great: Did not handle application of refund to 2014 taxes well. Did not at all.
