I've used Turbo Tax since 1987. I bought it when my accountant told me I owed money on my taxes. I entered my own results in Turbo Tax and found that I was receiving a refund because Turbo Tax asked questions my accountant did not.
What's great about it: Easy to use just follow the quide, I like the full tax review to make sure I've not made any mistakes.
What's not so great: Sometimes the Help search capabilties are limited you need additional Query capabilities
I have been using Turbo Tax for over 10 years, it is a great product, covers all scenarios and simplifies filing tax returns. The only thing I have noticed that requires improvement is state returns, some times the questions asked in state returns are vague and confusing and requires some basic understanding of state taxes. I had to refer to the instruction manual of state return to be able to complete the return properly. I believe this stems from the fact that each states tax scenario if different. I am pretty sure Turbo Tax will address this issue and get it corrected. Enjoyed the experience!!!
What's great about it: easy, covers all tax scenarios
What's not so great: needs improvement with State returns
if you are a farmer and do not pay quarterly estimated taxes, then watch out. the package does not take this into account and will always charge you a penalty. thus you can not efile and must mail in your returns.
What's great about it: many good pros, thorough step by step, very useful
What's not so great: not for farmers that do not pay estimated tax
I was hoping to have some financial relief, in the way of a refund, after having a pipe burst and flood damage in my home during 2013. Unfortunately, I could not qualify for that based on the questions I answered. Now I have to pay MORE taxes on top of the home damages I'm still paying for.
What's great about it: It helped me navigate most of the complicated situations.
What's not so great: Some questions were confusing and I'm not even sure if I answered them right. I ended up having to pay MORE taxes!
Over the years I have been pleased with the ease of using Turbo Tax until this year.
My e-filed return to the State of Maine was "accepted" but my refund is being withheld up to 12 weeks pending manual review by a tax examiner. I feel Turbo Tax had a problem with Schedule PTFC and as a result my refund is being held up.
I feel Turbo Tax should refund my state e-filing fee. I would have done better mailing a hard copy to the State of Maine for the cost of the stamp. Next year I will mail my state return.
What's great about it: easy to transfer data from Fed return to Maine
What's not so great: problem with Schedule PTFC in Maine
