TurboTax works; let's see enhanced productivity

Turbotax has served me well for many years. Let's automate some of the mundane tasks that it still requires. The main request that I have is that it be set up so that assets used by more than one activity not have to be entered more than once. Examples are vehicles used in Sched C activities and in Sched E activities. We have two vehicles used in both my business and my wife's business in addition to two Sched E activities. Thus the basic info for each vehicle has to be entered than reentered THREE additional times. Similarly, we have two home offices so basic info for all assets associated with our home as a whole have to be entered twice. Let's use computers to do what they are good at - eliminate this duplicate data entry!
What's great about it: Handles my Sched E and Sched Cs albeit could do so better
What's not so great: Does not automate the entering of assets used by more than one activity
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Wish we could use same program every year without buying another one, since we had to look for updates anyway.
What's great about it: Did it at home, easy to use.
What's not so great: Expensive

The Journey Continues

Great product. I'm happy to buy it every year. Love the way it tracks our data over time. The comparison tables are great. Easy to use...so no real comments.
What's great about it: Easy transfer of prior information; tracking of prior information and review summaries; ease in inputting data.
What's not so great: Sequence of input in Easy Guide - did not make sense to input the rental information before W2s, 1099s, etc.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

2013 Turbo Tax Rocks!!

As a whole, Turbo Tax for Home & Business is amazing! This is my first time using it and it handled everything smoothly & efficiently which kept me calm throughout the entire process. In 2013 my husband lost his job and collected unemployment, we started a second home-based business, and I procrastinated until April 13th to start my tax returns! I was nervous about doing my own taxes, but I had all my paperwork and last year's return in front of me when I started up Turbo Tax. The system is easy to navigate, it saves your work automatically as you go, and you can close it and come back later to the exact place you left off. It's also very easy to go back and review and make changes anytime throughout the process. When it was all said and done, I was able to eFile my federal and state returns by April 14th and we are getting a very nice refund. I highly recommend Turbo Tax for anyone who understands the basics of filing tax returns. Anything beyond the basics is handled by Turbo Tax based on your answers to simple questions. Awesome!
What's great about it: Walks you step-by-step through the federal and state returns in easy to understand language.
What's not so great: Some of the business tax terminology was confusing and so were some of the explanations.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Works Well Most of the Time
on April 14, 2014

Product worked really well 75% of the time. However, with software that's calculating thousands and thousands of dollars you may or may not owe, having any kind of bugs especially major ones is really disconcerting. After the app downloaded my state forms it continuously crashed, refusing to even run until I managed to Google some forums posts about an obscure cache folder that had to be cleared to fix the problem (which it did). The second issue was when I started to enter my wife's W2 info, it gave a cryptic "authorization failed" error followed by an error box disappearing and reappearing like 6 times. I'm fairly certain this is because my wife's employer doesn't support the automatic W2 import, but they should have a way more user friendly way to say that. In the end I re-entered all my information in the web version of TurboTax just to be sure the numbers were correct and they were identical. I may just use the web version next year as it didn't have any of the download versions bugs. If it didn't have the two bugs I mentioned above, this would absolutely be a 5-star product.
What's great about it: Easy to understand and navigate.
What's not so great: Major application bugs.
