It seemed like I spent a lot more time doing my taxes than it would have if I went and paid to have it done. I'm going back to the old way which was less stressful...
What's great about it: Really not sure just yet
What's not so great: For a reasonable amount more my tax preparer does all the work

after multiple attempts to e-file, was unable to do so because turbotax kept requesting update. after updating multiple times was STILL UNABLE to submit after paying the state fee to do so!

I have been using MacInTax and TurboTax for over 20 years. Thoughout that time, my taxes have ranged from simple to complicated. I've even been audited - to the IRS's satisfaction. This year, my family's estate accountant said he was amazed that I complete my own taxes. I couldn't do it without TurboTax. Plain and simple.
Pros: I had a baby, My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved, I bought or sold investments

Solid Program

The process of completing taxes is never fun or easy, but use of Turbotax simplifies it as much as can be expected. Carry-over of information from year to year is a real plus, as is the electronic filing option.
What's great about it: Thorough and easily reviewed / updated
What's not so great: Switching between data inputs for joint filers occasionally caused confusion.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Needs Better Help Files
on April 14, 2014

The older versions of Turbo Tax had several direct links to help files (not internet websites) which you could click on found in the current page you're working on. The links would pull up help file in a new window which was directly related to what you were working on. These were so helpful. PLEASE BRING THESE BACK TO TURBO TAX!
Also, it would be informative to be able to compare the past 2 previous tax years.
DON'T CHARGE US TO E-FILE RETURNS!!!
Heck, we've already paid a fair amount for your software! Like E-Filing is some special, special, costly, luxury. IT"S NOT! We're taxed enough already!
What's great about it: Brief, organized, and to the point.
What's not so great: Help files too limited. Need more direct links from current page.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

2013 seemed to have a bug about farm income, which could not be corrected on federal side and carried over to state returns. I answered no farm income yet state return listed a farm.
Since people are accustomed to looking at actual forms, please make it simpler to view forms and to correct or enter data directly on forms. Please simplify the list of forms shown under view forms
What's great about it: Nice step by step process, clear questions, friendly
What's not so great: viewing forms is somewhat difficult
Pros: I bought or sold investments

could not import 2012

if you can't import 2012 and have to start over from scratch, what's the point of sticking with the same software. Next year I'll look at all publishers, not just this one.

The entries were easy but exactly where to put them hard for the flipping or sale of property------- other than home or vacation home or rental. Put the house sale in stocks under other but did not seem right. I have a schedule C for business of remodeling and flipping houses but nothing much but car expense went on it. All was included in the sale of house. Cost basis. Could have easily doubled up and entered figures twice the way it was prompting me.
Too much money for state filing. I had two states and the one I had to pay more to file-- than I payed taxes in it, in the first place.
You can download free from state the paperwork but since I was in your program I did it there. Mistake. Cost me too much money. Then if you e-file even more money.
For the cost of program- it should come with free e-filing state and federal.
What's great about it: Easy to follow instructions. Able to work at one's own pace.
What's not so great: Too much money for filing state taxes. Not clear on business aspect of flipping houses.
