Federal & State Rejected
on February 27, 2014
Posted by: Teir
My Federal & State Returns were rejected because a last name and SS Number did not match. I used the SS number that Turbo Tax printed on the 2014 Form 1040-ES Payment Voucher. It was my wife's SS number, they printed a 7 instead of a 4 in the SS number !!!
Turbo Tax assisted me in correcting the problem and now my returns have been accepted.
I have used TurboTax and it's precursor for over twenty years. Each year it becomes more capable and more robust. I use it for easy returns for relatives, and for my relatively complex return as well. It has never come up short.
What's great about it: Complete, and idiot proof
What's not so great: No ability to go directly to a selected area of the interview
I have been a self-preparer of a fairly complex tax return all my life, with the exception of a few years while living overseas. For many of those years I have been using TTH&B. I like the importing of last years return info, and the completeness of the return and supporting information. The electronic filing and payment this year is particularly good. My biggest problem is that, as someone who understands the tax laws reasonably well, using TT "dumbs me down" to the point that I am just filling in numbers without understanding what I am doing. Also, when I click to ask for the source data for an item on one of the forms, it often does not tell me exactly from where that item comes; instead it gives me a set of choices to look at. Finally, this year when I added my second state return, it did noti initially recognize the first state return. I waisted several hours trying to resolve that, and meanwhile I couldn't file any of the returns (Fed, or either state), because until the info from the 2nd state return was available, the other returns were incomplete and wrong.
What's great about it: Imports data from last year, greatly facilitates electronic filing, provides easy-t0-do payment options
What's not so great: TT separates me from a deep understanding of what I am
Holding back form 8960 for what ever reason cost us all a lot of time, worry and money by not being able to file weeks ago. Of course TT won't take the blame but someone should and give back there purchase money. Only far! Next year I think you will see a drop off in TT sales.
I have used TurboTax for many years, and find it a good product. This year was a little more complicated, and had to call my accountant to answer all the questions correctly. Overall, a fairly easy process. When the taxes are straight forward, TurboTax is the way to go. When tax situation is more complicated, it isn't as easy to work through.
What's great about it: Easy to answer questions and good help windows.
What's not so great: Having to go to print preview to see the actual form - without all the worksheets inserted.
