Sick of all the ads; Took my money
on April 14, 2014

When you try to file, you get constant ads. I already paid for the app; just let me use it. Also, don't get me to enter the credit card for the state return, then tell me I can't file the state electronically!
What's great about it: Updated quickly for new tax laws
What's not so great: Took my money, then said I couldn't efile

Every time I do my taxes, I think I should change career paths. It is so fun to watch the numbers change. I love how it asks to gather.....items 1099 etc.
What's great about it: I like how it leads you through all the choices/catagories
What's not so great: When you have to fix something-where is it?

Awesome program. Was able to get a better return than what an expensive CPA worked for me. Very thorough and accurate. Just be sure you set aside a couple hours to get through it all.

What's not so great: time consuming
Pros: I had a baby, My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Federal - Great! State - missing a key form
on April 14, 2014

I've been using Turbo Tax for years and for the most part it's clear and functional and gets the job done. Invariably I print and mail the state return to avoid paying the e-filing fee. Or one year I went on the Ohio site and filed electronically for free.
This year Ohio added a key new form for all businesses, and this form (Schedule IT SBD# was not included in TurboTax. Considering this form applies to practically every business in the State of Ohio, it was very disappointing that it wasn't included #not to mention frustrating as I tried to figure it out on my own!)
What's great about it: It works
What's not so great: It was missing a key Ohio business form

Turbo Tax 2013
on April 14, 2014

I have been using Turbo Tax for over 20 years and have always been impressed with how easy it is to fill out and verify a fairly complex return. The Step by Step approach is complete and consistent throughout. I have always been impressed with Turbo Tax and this year was no exception.. Except ....
Some of the data supposedly imported from my 2012 return was completely wrong - not even close. Not sure how this happened but I was able to correct the data and file my return. It did shake me up though and made me review the return very carefully to be sure all the data and calculations were correct.
I gave the software a "Good" rating and it would have been "Excellent" except for this data transfer issue.
What's great about it: Easy to navigate, comprehensive
What's not so great: Some data imported from 2012 return was WAY off
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Program Crashes
on April 14, 2014

from Nassau, NY
I entered most of my information over a 2 month period, saving the file each time before closing the program. Three days before April 15th, my file crashed - Not the program, just the file. I went to recover the file, but found it was not anywhere on my computer. I had to reenter everything from scratch. What a mess. I backed up the file every 30 minutes or so but what kind of program lets a crash delete a file that has been previously saved. Big fail !!!!! Be very careful, can't believe they don't automatically backup the files. Very disappointed.
What's great about it: W-2 and Dividend downloads
What's not so great: Need to enter information multiple times to get back to same place in the program, no jump to feature like before
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Can't Print
on April 14, 2014

I'd give this more stars if I could print the documents. I had this problem last year too.
What's great about it: Easy to use
What's not so great: Can't print the forms. Print preview is garbage.
