Foreign property - kept asking me questions I could not answer. K1- Produced all the K-1s even though I only needed a trust.
Other than that good
What's great about it: Good overall
What's not so great: A few funny things
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Federal - Great! State - missing a key form
on April 14, 2014

I've been using Turbo Tax for years and for the most part it's clear and functional and gets the job done. Invariably I print and mail the state return to avoid paying the e-filing fee. Or one year I went on the Ohio site and filed electronically for free.
This year Ohio added a key new form for all businesses, and this form (Schedule IT SBD# was not included in TurboTax. Considering this form applies to practically every business in the State of Ohio, it was very disappointing that it wasn't included #not to mention frustrating as I tried to figure it out on my own!)
What's great about it: It works
What's not so great: It was missing a key Ohio business form

Turbo Tax 2013
on April 14, 2014

I have been using Turbo Tax for over 20 years and have always been impressed with how easy it is to fill out and verify a fairly complex return. The Step by Step approach is complete and consistent throughout. I have always been impressed with Turbo Tax and this year was no exception.. Except ....
Some of the data supposedly imported from my 2012 return was completely wrong - not even close. Not sure how this happened but I was able to correct the data and file my return. It did shake me up though and made me review the return very carefully to be sure all the data and calculations were correct.
I gave the software a "Good" rating and it would have been "Excellent" except for this data transfer issue.
What's great about it: Easy to navigate, comprehensive
What's not so great: Some data imported from 2012 return was WAY off
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Program Crashes
on April 14, 2014
Posted by: TurboCrash
from Nassau, NY
I entered most of my information over a 2 month period, saving the file each time before closing the program. Three days before April 15th, my file crashed - Not the program, just the file. I went to recover the file, but found it was not anywhere on my computer. I had to reenter everything from scratch. What a mess. I backed up the file every 30 minutes or so but what kind of program lets a crash delete a file that has been previously saved. Big fail !!!!! Be very careful, can't believe they don't automatically backup the files. Very disappointed.
What's great about it: W-2 and Dividend downloads
What's not so great: Need to enter information multiple times to get back to same place in the program, no jump to feature like before
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Can't Print

I'd give this more stars if I could print the documents. I had this problem last year too.
What's great about it: Easy to use
What's not so great: Can't print the forms. Print preview is garbage.

Taxpayer questionnaire not as good as in past year
on April 14, 2014

I've been using Turbotax since 2002 and love it. It's been very accurate and leaves me assured that both our family and business input are accurate and all required data is elicited in questionnaire. This year for the first time I found that following the suggested script was confusing and I had to really search for income and deduction question locations. The search box seemed too scanty in helping me find things. Previous years constantly asked me if I wanted to update but this year I couldn't find access to request to update the software. It was difficult to navigate around the survey--the buttons at top seemed to be poorly written relevant to past documents. Were they written by person who doesn't have English as first language? I will continue to use Turbotax but you need to have better review and editing of product to avoid these issues.
What's great about it: Accuracy and completeness builds trust
What's not so great: Couldn't find topics easily--incomplete search vocabulary

Gets consistently better, year after year.

I have used TurboTax for many years. And it has always been a pleasure to use (well, as much of a pleasure as filing taxes can be...). In the bad old days, I had to wade through books, manually calculate this and that... <shudder!>. Now, I feel confident that I have gotten the maximum out of my return.
Also, it is so nice to be able to compare my previous year's return. Nice not to have to fill in quite so many recurring details.
What's great about it: So easy to use for my one-man business and personal tax life.
What's not so great: Don't like paying to e-file state returns.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Competent but not as intuitive as TaxCut
on April 14, 2014

TurboTax instilled confidence but was not as simple to navigate as TaxCut and is not as intuitive. I have confidence I attained maximum refund and audit protection.
What's great about it: Instilled confidence of accuracy & low audit chance
What's not so great: Not as easy to navigate and not as intuitive as other programs
